Listening To This CD With Your Loved One Is Like Taking A "Stairway to Heaven"

Written: Apr 14 '04 (Updated Jul 29 '05)
Pros:Great seductive grooves, perfect for love-making
Cons:Nothing really
The Bottom Line: Time-Life does it again with another great sensual love-making CD.

Well, this review is going to be a little different, because I'm not writing a "usual" intro. Instead, I'm just leading into Lovey McGee, who's going to be the main person talking. But, I'll be interpersing his words with analytical responses of my own. And, no, for those who may be thinking it, I don't have split-personality disorder (lol). Anyway, let's get started

Welcome back to the station that you turn to get your lovin' on. My name, as you all know, is Lovey McGee and I'm going to be your dee-jay for this hour that we call the Love Connection. We're going to be playing Time-Life's Body and Soul: Sweet Seduction double disc set. I hope you enjoy listening with your loved ones, or for those groovy cats with no one to love, we will occasionally have our usual "Love Connection" when people are able to call up and connect with someone through the magic of the radio. Well, enough of my introduction, let's get ready for some seducing.....

Disc 1

We start with the passionate sounds of Luther on Power of Love/Love Power. Yes, Luther Vandross, my listeners. Ladies and gentleman, hold your others close as he sings about the power of love and how much it means all over a semi-fast paced brass/keyboard medley. Love is a powerful thing that can't be truly described. It may be a jumble of emotions that you get when you see someone or it may be the reaction you feel inside. I don't think no one knows what it really is, but I just know it's a feeling that's really welcome. But, we must continue. Next up, we have the soft-paced, sensual sound of Patti LaBelle on If Only You Knew, where she sings about needing someone but the object of her affection doesn't know all over a guitar/keyboard production. This one's for those gentle souls who are kinda afraid of expressing their feelings for their loves, but it will be ok, because the power of love is undeniable. But, now we must take a commercial break and when we get back, we will start the love connection

With the first two songs, we have examples of the effects of love from both perspectives: one (Luther Vandross), who describes how much love means and what it could do, the other we have a lady describing all of the effects that unrequited love have on her. I think that she is feeling some ill effects of it, because on this track, she sings in a sorrowful timbre, thus implying that this love that she has not shared is taking harmful effects on her. But, keeping with the "sweet seduction" subject, these songs have an underlying seductive nature to them as well. Nevertheless, back to Lovey McGee.

Welcome back, my love birds. Well, it's that time once again. I'm about to start that "Love Connection". So, for the next few minutes, we are going to try to connect some love birds out there. Our first caller, tell us your name:

Caller 1: My name is Lovita Duneson and I am desparately looking for a man.

Lovey McGee: Well, Ms. Lovita. Tell all the listeners out there what you look like and what are you looking for in a man.

Caller 1: Well, I'm 5'5, brown-black eyes, nice curves, I guess, and I'm single, sociable, and sweet. What I'm looking for in a man is someone to hold me tight when I want him to, someone to keep me company whenever, someone to take me places, and just love me for me.

LM: Well, I hope you find that person. Any gentleman out there who want to talk to the lovely Lovita, call us up at 555-LOVE. Lovita, stay on the line, so if someone calls, we can hook you two up. Anyway, let's continue our listening with the wonderful song Stairway to Heaven

On this track, we have the great group The O'Jays comparing love to a stairway to heaven over a seducing, lovemaking groove. All you Cupids out there can sympathize with this track, I bet. Because, I know that when you're in love, it feels like God has blessed your relationship with eternal grace. It truly feels like you're on the road to heaven in a day, on the road to forever bliss in an eternity. Next up, we have the one of my favorite tracks La La (Means I Love You) by the Delfonics which speaks of being in blissful love and trying to convince someone else to accept that love. I know many of the listeners out there can compare with they are saying, but we have to take another commercial break. Don't go anywhere.

The former track Stairway to Heaven gets points from me just for the name. For some reason, it drew me into the song. When I first heard it, I felt with what the O'Jays were singing about, comparing being in love with being on a "stairway to heaven" and "walking the road to ecstasy". This would be one of the perfect songs to sing to a girl if you were in love with her and was trying to convince her to love you too. I really don't know how to explain the beauty of this song. The next track La La (Means I Love You) I didn't like so much when I first heard it, because it seemed too sappy for me with "lalalalala...I love you" chorus. It felt to me like the singers were too desperate, but as I gave it more listens, it grew on me for some reason. But, I don't advise guys to just sing this song out of the blue to any girl without wanting to get stared at.

Well, we have to end this disc soon, because we only got so much time to go before we have to make way for the interview with...hmm, J-Kwin/Big Lymers, i think that's what they are called...so we finish up with an Peaches and Herb classic Reunited, in which this duo sing about being together again after being apart. This one is for those lovers who have been separated...like for instance, some of you were in the war (As an aside point, did any of you see Dubya stumble over his words in his speech last night like he was confused like Whitney Houston at rehab, but I digress), and were separated, this is the song I dedicate to all of you. We finish disc 1 with one of the Temptations' hits Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me).. I know all you listeners out there have heard this one before, so I don't even have to touch on it. Well, that ends this disc and we go on another commercial break. When we get back, we will do another "Love Connection". Don't turn away.....

The first disc had a bunch of wonderful, majestic tracks out there, and I felt like I needed someone to seduce with my charms when I was listening to the numerous classics on here. I realize that I didn't cover most of the tracks on this disc, just the ones that stood out to me the most. But, all of these songs on here are still great, nonetheless, and I wouldn't mind listening to them again. But, we must continue with the rest before Lovey does a Jay-Z on us.

Disc 2

Welcome back to the "Love Connection". Right now, we have another caller looking for someone to hold and be with. Caller, what is your name?

Caller 2: I'm Marv Gayson. And, I'm a suave, handsome, charismatic type of brotha who loves all my black sistas.

LM: Ok, looks like we got a Dolemite on the line.

Caller 2: Dolemite? Before my time, bro

LM: Ok, I see where the youth is nowadays.....::coughs:: Nevertheless, what are you looking for in a woman?

Caller 2: Well, I don't know why women don't want to go with me. I got the looks, I got money, making 60 thou a year, and I have the personality. I have virtually everything that a woman should love in a man. Jeeze, if Bruce Bruce (he's a big comedian....really big) can get a woman, why not me?

LM: That's the problem with most of the youth. You all think that having a flashy car, wearing designer clothes, and owning the newest car on the block makes you winnable. You have to attract a woman with something that will last forever. You need to be in love with a woman, instead of trying to make a woman love your material possessions. Marv, hold on the line, and I'll talk with you privately to set you straight. But, I have a few perfect songs to play off disc 2 for this circumstance.

We start with the soothful baritone voice of the sadly deceased Barry White on Can't Get Enough of Your Love. Ladies, hold your men close once again because on this song, Barry probably says the same thing your man probably says to you when you touch him, you show that you want him, or when he smiles at your beauty after working a long, hard day. Nevertheless, on this seductive song, Barry sings of what could make him want the love of his beloved so much. Next up, we have the Al Green classic Let's Stay Together, which I know all you lovebirds have heard before. I dedicate this track to those who are deeply in love and plan to stay that way. Well, we have another commercial break and when we get back, we'll be in the mid-point of this disc.

This disc seems to have a different approach to seduction. Instead of celebrating the fact that love exists and the good things about it, we have different songs concerning the effects of love that is possibly not wanted and/or the reasons why love between two people should be nice. In other words, because I know that could be a little confusing, the first disc had a theme that people were already in love and this one has a theme that love from both sides hasn't happened, yet. Such songs as Earth, Wind, and Fire's Reasons and Ray, Goodman, and Brown's Special Lady prove that point well because both of these songs deal with talking about girls that people love but that girl doesn't know how much the men love them. (However, a few songs on each disc deviate from this format, though). Nevertheless, back to Lovey's world.

Welcome once again to the "Love Connection". Next up, we have The Brothers Johnson classic I'll Be Good to You. On this upbeat track, we have the brothers talking about the numerous things that they would do for their ladies. This song would be perfect for those who are looking for inspiration on how to keep your lovers happy and complacent. Sadly, we have to conclude our listening of this marvelous double disc set, because we are simply running out of time like before when we went over the Love Serenade double disc set. We conclude with the Freddie Jackson masterpiece You Are My Lady, in which he sings about a special woman happily becoming his lady and the wonderful L.T.D. track Love Ballad in which they sing about the sometimes lonely effects of not-shared love. I'm so sorry that we couldn't fully enjoy this CD set, but I enjoyed talking to you lovebirds out there once again. Well, with that, good night, and remember to keep the love strong. This is Lovey McGee and I'm signing off.

Final Thoughts

Time-Life has done it again. They have culminated a new bunch of love songs that will help anyone seduce their loved ones. I hope you all enjoyed the somewhat unique review style, though. There's not much more I can say about the compilation without running the risk of sounding redundant. But, I'll recommend this CD for anyone who's with their loved one and want something smooth, sweet, and sensual to arouse them.
