Gov9's Full Review: The Marshall Mathers LP [PA] by Eminem
MMLP has been out over a year & I am still listening to it. Obviously everyone knows Eminem and his album has been analyzed, disected, protested, praised, and ridiculed all at once. Therefore, this review is not going to change anyone's mind, but I thought I'd weigh in.
The music itself is amazing. Dr. Dre brings gives his best to MMLP and knows exactly how to handle Em. Every song gives you something different. I don't need to analyze the lyrics since everyone has their own strong feelings as to whether they appropriate. Anyone can question whether Stan makes up for Kim or vice versa. Hip hop will never be the same as the production value is as good as any Top 40 album out there. Every beat and lyric fits perfectly. Eminem is obviously a gifted MC. All in all, this combination makes for a great album.
To me, music is an art form and can not be condemned or praised basic on moral value. If an album is able to bring out a strong deal of emotion in you, good or bad, it has done its job. That is all that you can ask for. MMLP has done this as much as any album as I can remember, which will make it memorable. This is what also makes it worth listening to. When a man has so much built up energy and is able to express it like this, you can only be intrigued.
