This Album needs no WORK
Written: Jun 05 '01 (Updated Jun 07 '01)
Pros:Great ORIGINAL beats, new lingo, gets you pumped up
Cons:Profanity, lyrics tend to become redundant.
The Bottom Line: A great album with excellent beats from Mannie Fresh. "#1 Stunna" and "Get Your Roll On" are the two best songs.
Whether or not you listen to the music of Master P, Three Six Mafia, or The Big Tymers, the minute you put this CD in your car or home stereo you are immediately impressed by the caliber of this album.
This album showed a great maturity from their first album "How you luv that", which was mainly unknown except for hometown fans. I GOT THAT WORK was the step out album for Mannie Fresh and his partner Bryan Baby Williams. This album was extremely important for the musical career of Mannie Fresh because he is well known in the rap industry for the ability to lay some of the hardest hitting, trunk rattling bass beats around but his lyrical skills had yet to materialize.
He kills all doubt of his ability to rap as his new lingo has created a whole new language for people everywhere. How many people have heard the phrase "Bling Bling", or "The Number One stunna". All of these phrases were originated in songs that Mannie Fresh laid the tracks for.
Baby Bryan WIlliams is the less notable of the duo but he has always had a verse or two on songs and done a good job.
What makes this CD so great is that none of the beats were sampled or remade. This is becoming too much of a trend among rap and R&B artists. I HATE it when I hear a song and think its great to hear one of my parents or friends say that their was an original song made 10-20 years ago. Puff Daddy is Notorious for this. (no pun intended)

The Album:
I GOT THAT WORK
1. Intro
This is the smooth intro to the album and shows the smooth lyrical lingo that characterizes their music. It also discusses how they won't stop stunning! Unless you are truly familiar to the slang they use it may sound like another language but you will come to acquaint yourself with the terms throughout the CD. MY glossary of terms should help you out!
2. Get Your Roll On
This was the first single released from the album and for a while you could not turn the radio on without hearing this song. The beat is great because it doesn't inundate you with bass and is great for a car audio system. The song features Baby and Mannie.
3. Brotha couldn't know
This song has features Lil' Wayne. Lil' Wayne is another member of the Cash Money crew. This song is great because its a cruising song that you love to play when you're on the highway. The song addresses how they used to be living in the streets and now they have more things that they could have ever known. Usually, I get tired of musicians talking about everything they have but the Big Tymers truly show that they still live the same street lifestyle.
4. #1 STUNNA
This is my favorite song on the entire album. This song is the song that you play when you drive up to a party or somewhere with a lot of people. You will immediately want to roll your windows down and let everyone see you. But if you don't have a decent stereo system you should probably keep it at a low level because the song requires a good amount of bass to have the right effect. Many high school and college marching bands play this song.
5. Skit
(Nothing important to say about it)
6. No, No
This song is funny because it addresses people who always have excuses or funny situations that come with their everyday lives. They talk about the women who don't act right and other stuff. If you listen to the entire song I guarantee that one of verses will have something that pertains to your life. This song has a great beat and is good just as an instrumental
7. We Ain't stoppin' (featuring Juvenile and Hot Boys)
The song talks about the ghetto girls that they like. Their descriptions of them can be a little degrading towards women but unfortunately this is the life they live. As long as you don't take the song seriously you can still enjoy it.
8. My Life
This is a great song because it addresses all the people who told Mannie he couldn't make it and all the people who tried to hold him down. My girlfriend who hates this type of music likes this song because it really is inspirational. He talks about how he used to do drugs, was arrested, and used women but how he's changing.
9. Sunday Night
A great smooth song that is very easy to listen to. It talks about their lives and how they can live comfortably and enjoy life. This song talks about cars a little too much for me so it is hard to enjoy the lyrics but when you're not paying too much attention its good
10. 10 Wayz
This song is reminiscient to the "ten crack commandments" that Notorious B.I.G made a few years. The first verse gives ten ways to live a drug life. The second verse shows the ten ways he can be use his money but not let the money change. The last verse shows how people will try to use you for your money but to keep family close.
11. Hard Life
This song discusses the rough streets of Louisiana that Mannie and Baby came from. They discuss how inner city people just rob from each other and it becomes a vicious cycle because of drugs and hatred.
12. Skit
(nothing important)
13. We Hustle
The name of the song says it all. It describes the hustle that used to be a the major part of their lives. This includes the women, drugs, and stolen cars.
14. Pimp On - (featuring Unplugged)
This song tried to unveil a new artist of the Cash Money Army. Unfortunately he has no skill as a lyricists and makes the song a little less enjoyable. This is a problem that plagues many "rap cliques". They are constantly trying to bring in new talent but the quality of the music decreases drastically.
15. Stuntastic - (featuring B.G./Lil' Wayne)
A description of the life of "stunning that the Big Tymers are used to. It's a great song because of the beat and because of lyrics. The lyrics are great because they are the dreams of so many youngsters. This is to be successful and be able to afford nice things in life. Even though the Big Tymers may place a little too much emphasis on material objects, it's still a good song
16. Rocky
This song talks about what you should do if someone wrongs you. It's every other line in the chorus ends in the words "Rocky Balboa". The beat is a classic because it has includes horns which is rare in rap. This adds the classic marching band sound.
17. Big Tymers - (featuring Lac)
Describes what how the Big Tymers treat women who try to use them. It's kind of vulgar but the song is basically a "diss" of a hometown girl named Kim.
18. Snake
This song is for the ladies. This song talks about what their ghetto girls really want. It's funny because because it's saying that the only guys that those girls really want are guys who are just like the Big Tymers. This means guys who rock ice.
Overall, if you like down south rap, this is an album that you probably all ready own. My overall recommendation of this album is a good one but you have to be liberal in listening to the lyrics and they may seem offensive to some listeners.
