Found on a Farm, not 'da Hood
Written: Mar 04 '01
Pros:Quirky First single, Some gems.
Cons:most likely a novelty one hit wonder. too bad
The Bottom Line: Boyz In D Hood and a few other highlights, otherwise not the best cd. However, it is still enjoyable.
Not often can an artist find or create a song that is so different from the current trends that everyone stands up and takes notice. Dynamite Hack was lucky enough to have that good fortune, on both accounts. They found a rap song and contorted it around so much that No one knew it even was a rap song, until someone told them. Farmclub.com signed them to their Universal Records distributed label. The CD as a whole is an un even affair.
Tracks:
Switcheroo - punk rock opener, enjoyable sounds. Harmonies shine on this track. the theme here deals with his girlfriend breaking up with him, causing grief. The narrator then realizes that she does this to every guy.
Anyway - power-punk song about loves pitfalls. sounds like it could've been a single.
Alvin - Song about Alvin, Texas, their home state. Has somewhat childish lyrics. Basically an ode to small town life growing up,(Beer And Sex.)
Dear Kate - Blink 182 power-punk-pop song about abnormally skinny model who he happens to like. Funny Lyrics. ...they all say your face looks like Eric Stoltz in mask...
G Force - Not the best of songs, but it does showcase another side of dynamite hack, softer melodic rock.
Wussypuff - some more melodic pop rock. The theme here is similar to switcharoo, even though he says he'll gladly continue to think about his lost love, unlike superfast.
Blue Sky - another song about lost love. the melody here is quite impressive. easy to understand lyrics accompanied by a mid-tempo beat. A strong song.
Slice of Heaven - tempo increases here, otherwise a filler track that usually is a B-Side. Sadly, they don't have enough songs to create a full CD.
Granola - Fast song about trendy people and their, dynamite hack's, disdain for those people.
Boyz N The Hood - The center piece of the CD, I love their hilarious folk rock take on a gangsta rap song. Ingenious.
Pick Up Lines - Punk song about the band not taking themselves seriously.
Marie... - slow ending to the listed tracks about a girl named marie with the line, "she takes me in she takes me out."
track 42, Anyway - version of track two by kate, the sister of the singer. She sounds like Alanis Morrisette. one of the better tracks on the CD.
