DnDn4kidz's Full Review: Who Let the Dogs Out [Single] by Baha Men
This will be my first attempt at writing an Epinion about a song, a single song, and I hope those who rate this review will rate based on how the review is written, and not on whether or not they like this song!
That said...
Not long ago, a preview for the Rugrats in Paris movie came on television and a clip from a song, "Who Let the Dogs Out?" was playing in the background. My two year old daughter and my three year old son started running around my living room like little maniacs, dancing and singing, "Whoof, whoof, whoof!"
Soon after this incident, one of those commercials on television that tells you to call this 800 phone number NOW and order *this* greatest hits CD or cassette tape for only four monthly installments of $49.99(or something like that), plus $30 s/h(or something like that) came on, with one of the featured songs being "Who Let the Dogs Out?" by the Baha Men.
After having seen my two younger children's reactions to the few second clip that played on the Rugrats preview, and now learning what group does that song, I had to go to Napster and download it!
We now have the "Who Let the Dogs Out?" single, as well as the song downloaded on my computer, the song set up as a sound wav file on my computer, the song on my telephone answering machine, the song set up to sing as a lullaby when putting my children to bed...okay, maybe we aren't *that* fanatical about this song, but you get the point.
"Who Let the Dogs Out?" is done by the Baha Men, a reggae sounding group, who also do such songs as Get Ya Party On and Shake It Mamma which can be found on the Who Let the Dogs Out? album. "Who Let the Dogs Out?" is a Caribbean, reggae, hip-hop sounding song that you can not sit still through, while I find most of the others on some of the Baha Men albums to sound Caribbean, but not hip-hop.
The "Who Let the Dogs Out?" song was released in 2000, and is one of the songs featured in the movie Rugrats in Paris. Most of the hip-hop songs now days seem to be chock full of profanity, or degrading lyrics. This song has no degrading or profane words in it. It is not only perfectly *safe* for young children, but it is fun! I play this song for my two year old at least 10 times a day, and she has figured out how to get the stereo on and playing this song by herself, for those times when I just can't *hack* it anymore! Daily, my daughter will stand at the computer or the stereo, yelling, "Doggies! Doggies!!" I have also passed this song on to all of my friends with younger children.
I don't know that adults or older children would *appreciate* the song "Who Let the Dogs Out". Most of the lyrics are true to reggae form, and difficult to understand. I get, "..scruffy, flea infested mongrel" out of it all somewhere, but I can not determine if the chorus is "Who let the dogs out, who? Who? Who?" or "Who let the dogs out? Whoof! Whoof! Whoof!" But in the overall scheme of things, two and three year old children really don't care what lyrics mommy is singing as she's running around the living room, looking like a maniac singing and dancing with them<g>.
I would recommend the "Who Let the Dogs Out" single by the Baha Men to anyone with small children, or anyone who would like an upbeat hip-hop song, similar to music by Maxi Priest, or Soul II Soul.
