tchoate's Full Review: Love Songs by Conway Twitty
When you think back on the older days of country music, there is one name that will always be mentioned when talking of the stars of country music and that name is Conway Twitty. In a career that touched almost every music genre there is from rockabilly to rock ‘n’ roll and also mainstream country, Conway Twitty had a record setting 55 #1 hits in his career. Every song that Conway Twitty ever sung seemed to be filled with emotion, which is why I believe he was one of the most loved country artist of his time. The cd Conway Twitty Love Songs gives you a chance to listen to some of the best songs of Conway Twitty’s career.
The Tracks
1. I’d Love To Lay You Down - This is a great song to begin a cd of Love Songs with. This is a great Conway Twitty song all about love and the feelings that go along with it.
“Lay you down and softly whisper pretty love words in your ears
Lay you down and tell you all the things my woman loves to hear
I’ll let you know how much it means just having you around”
I don’t know a woman in the world who wouldn’t like to hear all the wonderful things said to her that Conway sings about in this song.
2. Love Is The Foundation - This is a beautiful slow song sung only as Conway can sing it. This song seems to be telling of what makes a great marriage and what makes it last.
Love is the foundation we lean on;
All you need is love to ease your mind,
When she gives me more lovin’ than a lifetime of
Looking can ever find.
3. Before Your Time - This isn’t a song I remember hearing Conway sing a lot. But after purchasing this cd, it has become a favorite of mine. It has some of the most beautiful steel guitar playing I have heard on any cd in it.
Before you came along I sang the same ole song before
The melody was born when we walked right to loves door.
4. Even The Bad Times Are Good - This is a great song about love. It tells you how know matter how bad things get they are better than anytime before you shared your life with the person you love. It is a slow song, as most of the songs on this cd are, but well worth listening to.
5. Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’ - This is a little more upbeat than most songs on this cd. Most people will remember this song being sung by Charlie Pride, but Conway does a great job singing this song. This song was originally released by Conway in 1972, but is still a favorite of his fans today.
6. Walk Through This World With Me - This has to be one of the prettiest country songs ever written. The words to this song are what anyone would want to hear from the person they love.
Walk through this world with me, go where I go,
share all my dreams with me, I need you so. Now that I’ve found you
new horizons I see, come take my hand and walk through this world with me.
7. All I Have To Offer You Is Me - This song was released in 1970 and is a favorite of mine that Conway sings. This song tells you that there may not be a mansion or crystal chandelier, but she/he has love to offer you for the rest of your life.
8. (I Can’t Believe) She Gives It All To Me - This is another slow song with some wonderful piano playing in the background. This is just another great love song on this cd. This song is all about how he can’t believe a woman has chosen him to give all her love to.
9. It’s True Love - This song brings together one of the most popular duets ever recorded in country music. Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn recorded some of the most popular duets ever and this was one of them. They sing wonderfully with each other and this song is all about how they would change anything for each other because they have true love.
10. Happy Birthday Darlin’ - This is probably one of the most popular songs ever recorded by Conway Twitty. What I like most about this song, is that it not only has Conway singing but also his speaking in that deep yet soft voice of his. This is a great slow song to just sit with the person you love and listen to. This is about the kind of birthday present where you take things away to give back even more to that person in the way of feelings.
11. For My Woman’s Love - This song was originally released on an album in 1980. This is a slow song that Conway sings with more feeling in his voice than any song on this cd. This song is all about how everything he has or is today is because of the love of his sweet woman. This is a beautiful song that you will enjoy listening to again and again, because of the wonderful feeling in the song.
12. Lovin’ What You Lovin’ Does To Me - This is another great duet sung by Conway and Loretta. This is the most upbeat song on this album. Once you hear the music you will remember this song, from the days of old. It is all about how great it is to be in love and how it makes you feel. Conway and Loretta just have a way of singing together that makes you feel all the emotion to each and every song.
13. I Still Believe In Waltzes - This is a beautiful slow song that is great to waltz to a big dance floor. This song is about how you believe in old-fashioned love and the good old days gone by. I remember this song, being sung as a duet with Loretta, but this version is all Conway.
14. I Will Always Find My Way To You - This is a very slow song, but has some beautiful background music in it. This has to be my least favorite on this cd, but it is a song that just had to be included on a cd with other Love Songs. It is about not matter where you are or what you are doing you will always find your way back to the one you love. Great song to end this cd with!
Conway Twitty could sing his songs with more emotion than any country singer I can remember. He loved his fans and they loved him. I was lucky enough to have visited his home Twitty City before his death and enjoyed the way he made his fans feel at home. There were no big gates or security guards, Conway Twitty wanted his fans to be able to wander the grounds and enjoy their time at his house, which we did. He has recorded so many wonderful love songs that you couldn’t fit them all on one cd; but with Conway Twitty Love Songs I think they have chosen some of the best. If you are a Conway fan you will absolutely love this cd; if you are a country music fan and haven’t listened to Conway Twitty before this would be a great cd to start with.
