Show Me Your Folks, and I'll Show You My Girlfriend (ISYMIYSMY W/O)

Pros: A diverse selection of big and small names in folk music
Cons: overall, too diverse - no musical "center" to this collection

:) I didn't mean to imply that it was bad or that I didn't get it, it just struck me as funny in that odd sort of way.

Great review...

Like I have said in my reviews about the Folk Fest, this compilation shows the real diversity of music one can take in at the fest. While no one will enjoy it all, there is something for everyone. This CD is a good "snapshot" of the fest.

I'll be posting my review later this morning.

For the title, go back and look at that first paragraph. For the "I'll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours" write-off, I was sent a copy of this folk collection, and in exchange, I sent off a copy of the album Girlfriend. Hope that clarifies things...

Although I have to say your title is a bit strange! :)

On a more serious note, I love folk music and think Bob Dylan is simply awesome. This sounds like a great CD.

I'm in complete agreement with Jenn, this write off can be intimidating to first timers who don't really have a clue what it's all about.

I would do it more than once a year (say bi-annually), but there's so many other write offs going on...the once a year format helps keep it special, for lack of a better term

Great review, and thanks for joining in!

Thanks... I enjoyed being part of the I'll Show You Mine... festivities, and wish we could all do it again sooner than next year. Last year I might have participated, but it came just a few weeks before the end of my hiatus from the site. And the times before that... well, I was still doing some sub-par writing back then and probably would have been too self-concious to participate.

I'm sure that I'd enjoy the Philadelphia Folk Festival if I ever had the chance to attend, but for now, I'll have to content myself with Milwaukee's Summerfest coming up in the next few weeks. It's so convenient living in the same town as such a great annual music fest,

You did wonderfully for your first ISYMYSMY write-off. It can be incredibly hard to write about an album someone else picks for you and you handled it quite well. As an aside, though I haven't been in a few years, the Philadelphia folk festival is great fun. If you ever make your way to Pennsylvania in August, check it out.
