22 years at the top of heavy metal, and they are still going strong, they have lead the way for all the younger bands like marilyn manson, disturbed, nirvana, slipknot, and the list goes on.
A lot of people try to criticise Maiden by saying that all there songs sound the same, but really there songs just have a Maiden vibe which gives it that little bit of a similarity, but it also means that they are good enough to make there own personal style that actually can work for every one of there songs.
This album is purely the best Maiden compilation ever made, including there best hits such as evil that men do, fear of the dark, and run to the hills. It also has there latest single that has just been released thaks to 'campcaos' 'Flight of icarus'.
The album has missed some hits such as hallowed be thy name, which personally is my favourite song from 'number of the beast', it has also missed running free (featured on the self titled album) and a few more.
The CD start with proberly there most famous song,
Run to the hills: this song has been kinda over-played, but it still dont stop me from loving it, it starts with a famous drum beat, and then a quite famous guitar riff comes in to set the mood for the song, then Bruce's amazing voice really finishes off a great start to a great song, the original video is also great, i dont exactly know what the two side are in this, but i think it is like cowboys and indians, but not really sure. the second song on the album had to be none other than:
Number of the beast: This song has a amazing start, and it start off with some guy saying "whoa to you oh earth and sea, for the devil send the beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short, let him who have understanding recon the number of the beast, for it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty six", This song also was a bit over-played from the 'number of the beast' album, but it still is a amazing song, it starts with a fairly famous guitar, and the drumming is a bit easier, but who am i to say....i have no clue. Bruce's first album, and he made a truely great first impression. the third track from this is there new single, but old song:
flight of icarus: The song has made its way upto one of my favourite songs, It starts with a very catchy guitar riff, most of maiden is guitar so get used to it, then the drums come in that fit in perfictly with the guitar, and then to finish it off we have Bruce's outstanding voice, i dont really mention harris's bass, cause i dont really notice it, but he is an amazing bassist, proberly the best ever!.
the fourth track on this would be the powerfull song:
the trooper: It starts off ok, not really Maiden at there best, but it starts off with some good guitar work, and some really good drumming, with proberly not Bruce's best song, but it aint that he sang it bad, it just aint really maiden's best song on the whole, but it is a powerful song, that if you really listen to the it is wicked.
the fifth song is a song that i own on a 12" single signed and that is:
2 minutes to midnight: This song is really good and it is about satan possesing children when they are born at exactly 2 minutes to midnight, and a line from the chorus that i really like is "the hands that threaten doom" it continues to "to kill the unborn in the womb". i think that is proberly maiden's best chorus they have ever done, normally they do less work on the chorus leaving it really simple. the lyrics to this song are really good aswell, along with the guitar work, there is a really good guitar solo in it aswell.
The next song is
Wasted Years: Starts with a very high pitch guitar and i think, well it sounds like, the drummer using the snare drum, well whatever it is, it sound great. the song is pretty good, and one of there best on the 'somewhere in time album". Bruce has done some better songs, but it aint his worst.
seventh is a song from my favourite Maiden album, 7th song of a 7th son
Can i Play with madness: This song actually starts with Bruce saying "can i play with madness?" then a brilliant drummer somes in, and then the guitar work comes in to fit perfictly with the drumming, great start to another great song.
eighth is my favourite maiden song also appearing on the 7th son album
The evil that men do: Which starts which a great guitar piece, not really catchy but its still wicked. it starts off quite slow, with the drumming and the guitar, then is get heavier, and thats when Bruce comes in. I personally think this is like the only maiden love song, but i could be wrong.
nine is
the clairvoyant: I have never really listened to this song, so i will right it will listening.
It starts with a slow and soft guitar piece and then after about a 30seconds of slow and calm guitar and drums bruce somes in, and it turns into a really nice song, it is pretty much a slow song, but its really good.
number ten is
Infinite dreams: it starts off really really slow and bruce fits in really well, hes great he can sing all maiden music, and then the song later on gets heavier but remains great.
lucky eleven is
Holy Smoke: The song is really weird, and not like most of maidens stuff, it starts off really like happy, but well it sounds more maiden when bruce comes in, cause it get heavyer.
number twelve, depressingly, is maidens only nimber 1 single to date, ov course it is
bring ur daughter to the slaughter: This is a really gd song, and it starts with heavy frums and heavy guitar, and then toned down a bit comes Bruce, even though bruce was toned down it still fitted in really well.
unlucky for some number 13
Man on the Edge: So we go out of Bruce for this song and we go into Blaze, he sings this song so well, and i dont really know why he didnt get that much credit for the stuf he did cause some of it was really good. this song starts with well some more guitar. the song is really good, and you can really tell the difference between singers, but it still is amazing.
number 14
Futureal: the first time i heard this song i really didnt like it, but then when i got this album, it grew on me, and now it remains high on my list of best maiden songs, it starts really fast, and on the whole is a fast song.
fifteen is.....
.....The wicker mam: this was taken from there latest album 'brave new world' and the album is one of the best ever done. it starts really heavy, with adrian smith doing the guitar intro. the drums are also heavy and it is proberly the heaviest song done by maiden, amazing, it was taken from a old brittish film wit the same name.
and the last song on the album is proberly one of the best songs maiden have done and it can only be
Fear of the dark: this song starts really slow, then after bruce does the chorus it get so heavy and goes alot faster, it really is a quality song and is the very first song i heard of maidens, amazing!
