MajaFiggaz's Full Review: Hustlen 4 Show by Showtyme
I will be honest with you I don't know a damn thing about Showtyme. My cousin from South Carolina asked me to review this album to see if he should go and cop it. He is also the reason I checked out P.B.T. at first. Without further adue here is my review of Showtyme's "Hustlen 4 Show" (Hit Em Up Records)
1. Kick Door - $$ - This beat is pretty tight. Showtyme starts off rappin about the 3rd Ward and if you beef with it you gonna get f!cked up. He goes on to spit more braggadocio, lyrics that are straight terrible. The chorus here is real garbage. His second verse is sh!tty and is pretty much the same as the first. His last verse is mediocre as he gives you a bit more on his rappin background. This beat is really hot and when the bass picks up, the opportunity to really rip sh!t is incrased, but with SHowtyme rappin here that opportunity is wasted.
2. Ain't No Love (feat. Big Pokey & Mr. 3-2) - $ - Goes first and spits some fake @ss gangsta raps. Real unoriginal bullsh!t spit here, by Showtyme. Next up is Big Pokey who spit some braggadocio garbage. Mr. 3-2 spits some rhymes simalar to Showtyme and it stinks. This really slow song isn't helped by the chorus which is album terrible. Each of the rappers, Big Pokey especially, try aint sound like Scarface every way possible from the voice to the style of rap and neither pull it off, sounding like imitating jack@sses instead.
3. All He Wanted Was Doe (feat. Big Moe) - $$$ - The beat hits in and is pretty wack. Big Moe is on the chorus and could put you to sleep with its monotony. Showtyme raps a story about a n!ggas that was greedy and he was gettin money, and when he finally got some all he wanted was more doe. He tells he came up and turned his back. He then tells about this is a tale of playin chess in the hood and who ever get checkmate first start shootin. He tells of how he ran into Dapper Dan and got into the fast life "Now He for sure, that he turned heads, in this part of the game/From strikes, to cocaine he was moving fast to his change/Material thangs all in his brain, all this claim to fame/Life in the fast lane, not livin up to his name/One hates, made him switch the game, but he didn't cry/Two Shots made him give up his live, No goodbye". Lyrically this is pretty good for Showtyme.
4. Strugglin' (feat. Z-Ro & A-3) - $$$ - This track features Z-Ro who has been talked about lately for dissin 50 Cent on a track called "Snitch N!ggas". Showtyme goes first and spits a boring verse about a corny story of him hustlin and meetin females in the ghetto. A-3 Is up after him and spits a pretty tight verse about life in the hood from how he was raised a young child to strugglin and hustlin' on the block. Z-Ro also spits about his childhood and how there was a disease of crackheads on the block. His verse is pretty tight. The beat hear has nice bass and vicious violin play with minor synthesizer sound in the background. The chick on the chorus sing a very good hook for this type of song. I think Scarface would have really done this track justice, even though it isn't that bad as is.
5. Tokyo Dope - $$$$$ - $$$$$ = 0$'s - This song open up with a lazy shaolin beat(ya know what I mean). The beat is pretty tight, Showtyme ruins it. He attempts to spit a story about being chase by the fed, by the time you hear "I hit the back door runnin' like sh!t out a colon", you will be embarrassed for Showtyme. He then goes on to spit "Ha Ha, is Her High, cause it's higher than mine." Anyone listening to this will be happier than Ashanti that this garbage is over.
6. Swang Wide (Remix) - $$ - This beat includes heavy keyboard and synthesizer use along with a raw bassline. This has a type of hardness to it even though it's proabably meant to be a club track. On this track Showtyme tries hard to make this a club banger, but hearing his voice in the club would most likely make the women hit the bar and drink glasses, rather than hit the floor and shake there asses. However the chick on the chorus does a great job, which becomes a recurring theme throughout the album as most of Showtyme's chorus's outshine his actually rappin verses.
7. Out Here Grindin' (feat. B-1 & Trae) - $$$ - Starts off with Showtyme braggin about being a thug and sayin' you can't do what we do. B-1 goes first and spits some annoying lyrics that are more garbonics rather than ebonics or the English Language for that matter. Showtyme climbs the diving board next and straight belly flops. Such terrible lyrics, please Showtyme go read a book. I'm not asking for Canibus but damn. Creativity anyone? Well It looks like Trae has been doing his homework as he comes out straight gunnen em doesn like Uday & Qu'Say. He even has a voice that is reasonable to listen to. He spits about the crack game and talks about how it can effect people and make them a b!tch, especially the money. This beat is also tight. The problem is that you gotta listen to the two sh!tty guys to get to Trae, but hey These Are The Brakes!
Trae:
The grind could make a grown man steal from his mama/
The grind the main reason we all face drama/
The money can make a man switch/
A few grand, in the right hands, could make a man change to a b!tch/
In the literal sense, and in the literal, since/
They tryna do away with cents, and bury our common sense/
I spend a lot of day's pickin mint, Scrapin for rent/
Sacrificing for rap, thinkin how im gonna represent/
When rap like the dope game, just like crack mayne/
Mix it with bakin soda and water and a little cocaine/
Wanna tell em one thang, f!ck the change/
One thang, you never do behind ya grind is change/...
8. You In The Game Now - $$1/2 - This beat is really nice. This combines a perfect mix of synthesizers and bass, and when the bass picks up it is couple with slow snare drumming which makes this beat real tight. Lyrically however once again Showtyme shows us his intelligence with his limited vocabulary. His raps are so basic. the thing is that one this song his lyrics aren't that bad, but they are sooo mediocre because this guy's biggest word is like 6 letter basic kindergarten words....Oh my bad he said Picture me Skyscraping. I guess we can consider skyscraper as a big word, but hey, you get taught about those in 1st grade so that doesn't count. The tiht beat alone can't save this from being uglier than Kobe Bryant's current situation.
9. Shutem Down (feat. Tony, Hit Mann,& Dougie D) - $$1/2 - This song opens up with heavy bass and dark synthesizers along with snare drum use. Tony takes the first verse and spits some average bars of Braggadocio. Dougie D goes up second and spits some club Braggadocio about him actin up in the clubs. The chorus is really sad though. This obviously a very sad imitation of Lil Jon as someone is talkin and in Lil Jon fashion Showtyme is screamin' "Shut Em Down, Shut Em Down". Showtyme goes up next and spits and aight verse however but as i stated earlier, he will forever be plagued with limited verbal skills. Hit Mann comes up last and spits an pretty nice verse. It seems on this song that the person who goes after the previous guy does a bit better.
10. Nasty Girl (feat. Cleche) - $ - The song has Showtyme rappin about his sexual experiances. Cleche on the chorus doesn't do a bad job. In her rapping verse however, it is a different, matter. She comes off to me as a fake @ss Lil Kim lyrically. Showtyme once again spits another verse about sex. Somehow I just don't believe that Showtyme gets any p!ssy, Im sorry. He just sounds like he's an ugly bul. I guess that is a narrow and limited way to look at something but, I just don't believe this cat. Back to the song, his lyrics hideously resemble the stench of raw sewage.
11. Bounce Baby (feat. Tony, Hit Mann & A-3) - Pocketz Full O' Lint(AKA 0$'s) - This beat is over synthesized and has clapping sounds and is without a doubt the wackest beat on the album. Tony Hitmann, A-3 and Showtyme all speak bullsh!t. A-3 practically embarrasses himself. I don't know if he thinks that it would sound tight in the club or if it would make chick shake there @sses but it is really terrible as he spits "She's Whinding, She's Whinding, She's Whinding, Now let me see ya bounce something, She's Whinding, She's Whinding, She's Whinding, let me see ya twerk somethin"...That is some real trash, the way he say that can't nobody dance to that sh!t. then again people love to dance to wack sh!t which is evident with Chingy's "Right Thurr", which quite frankly makes me wanna beat Chingy the f!ck up for makin such a wack song. Sh!t let me go to 106th & Park while he's there, enough about that "rapper". Back on task this is quite possibly one of the worst songs of 03'.
12. Gangsta Sh!t - $$$1/2 - This is another attempt at a Scarface impersonation by Showtyme. This is obvious in everything from the beat, to the chorus to the way Showtyme spits on this track. The problem is that Showtyme straight suck, however, I will admit he does a pretty good job on this track. he still spits some very bad metafores "Send n!ggas across the room just by temptin' my dawg/Have holes all over you like you about to be raw/And please pay my hoes when they take you out hard/Don't be talkin all fly like you about to bogard", but overall the track is pretty good. The guy on the chorus also does a nice job This by far the best song on the album.
13. Gangsta Love - $$$1/2 - Showtyme end's this very bad album on a good note. This has a type of video game beat which then leads into heavy synthesizers and "belching" basslines. Showtyme spits about thug love with his girl and he spits a pretty tight story of loyalty, and it still sounds tight given his elementary flow. The woman on the chorus absolutley crushes this sh!t.
This is a pretty bad album. Even though if you average out my scores, it'll be better than 1 star, that is only because of production and chorus's which is NOT what I judge and album's entirety on due to the fact Showtyme doesn't do his own production and many of his chorus's. Showtyme's flow is terrible and it is ovbious he is an elementary school dropout. If he wan'ts to get any better i'd suggest him hittin up junior high school before putting out another album. Maybe a speech class would him his flow and perhaps art classes will enhance his creativity considering the fact he has none. Showtyme has one thing going for him however and that is his production. His priority list should look like this.
1. Finish 1st grade
2. Finish 2nd grade
3-12. Finish next grade level until I graduate
13. Keep Producers
14. Re-work my flow
15. Put Out good Album
If Showtyme follows these steps correctly it will most definitely lead to 3 star albums for him. If, not he will cellar dwell with Chingy in the catagory of Worst Rappers of All-Time.
