Violent J Tells A Story About The Wizard Of The Hood

Written: Dec 12 '03 (Updated Jul 01 '08)
Pros:Creative story telling songs, variations in sounds music lyrics
Cons:Way too short, only 8 songs and 2 bonus tracks
The Bottom Line: Not the best album from Insane Clown Posse (Violent J), this one is for juggalos only.

First you have Shaggy 2 Dope with his solo album called 'Fxck Off', then Jumpsteady comes along with his attempt at a solo album called 'Chaos Theory', but then you start to think... what ever happened to that fat blimp Violent J, where is his solo album? Well that day has finally arrived on his first solo album called 'Wizard Of The Hood'.

In the past Insane Clown Posse have created single songs pertaining to the "Wizard Of Oz" saga. There was 'The Wizard Of Delay' waaay back on Intelligence & Violence, then came 'The Wizard Of Hood' on Dog Beats, and another 'Wizard Of The Hood' on the first jokers card, The Carnival Of Carnage. With this kind of historical material, it only made sense that Violent J name his solo album Wizard Of The Hood. However, don't be fooled by the name, as several Psychopathic artists album appear throughout the album. Included are: Shaggy 2 Dope, Jamie Madrox, Monoxide Child, Blaze Ya Dead Homie and Anybody Killa.

The creativity Violent J puts into the Wizard Of The Hood is efficient because not only is each song completely different (lyrically and musically) but each song comes together to complete a story. And if you haven't guess by now, that story is a spoof of the movie, Wizard Of Oz.

The Intro is rather boring, however it explains the purpose of the album... which again, is a spoof on the Wizard Of Oz, only this Dorothy is looking to get high.

Let It Rain kicks off the story, as Violent J describes his living conditions in a crack house. There are quite a few funny comments about crack addicts, as the storm slowly reaches his house. "All the crackheads trying to reach the porch but the winds sweeping them off before they get to the door". And even when the tornado picks up the house, Violent J manages to hang onto his crack, while keeping his Nintendo on pause. There are a few more funny lines are the crackheads outside "We airborne and the windows flying by, pass a crackhead waving at me, still trying to buy a rock".

The Yellow Brick Alleyway slowly fades in after the house comes down for a crashing halt. In the Wizard Of Oz, this is the part were Dorothy opens the door and that rich technicolor kicks in, and shortly thereafter finds out she accidentally killed the witches witch of the west. However in the Wizard Of The Hood, our "Dorothy" finds himself gathering up roaches in preparation for his departure from the house. And when he learns of his accidentally killing of the witched witch of the south, he plays it pimp, pretending to have done it on purpose. "So my house landed right up on some neighborhood trick. I started playing it off, I seen her in the window so I was running around moving sh!t, and aiming it so, ya know?. And of course the munchkins rejoiced in their own assuming way... "We don't know who you are, and we don't really care. But your carnival clown a$$ is welcome here, because you and that damn near abandoned house landed right on top of the wicked witch of the south ".

Homies 2 Smoke With is another slow mellow song, in which Dorothy comes across the Scarecrow. Only this scarecrow doesn't want a brain, he simply wants some homies to get high with. "Don't ask if I ever tried smoking myself, no"!

Thug Willin' is the third song to introduce a character, the tin man. Only this tin man isn't rusted out under a tree, yet instead attacks Dorothy from behind with a gun. In a humors twist Dorothy finally gathers the courage to defend himself and finally realizes the tin man doesn't even have a gun. This is another classic case of Twiztid begin pansy waist nonviolent gangsta. "Yea he gots a Mercedes, Stretch Hummer, and Air V bus. All we got is this bammer, and you fxcking with us. I turned around, what the fxck you ain't even got a gun. I know you think maybe the Wizard got one?" What you know about heavy metal fool or big guns? I was just warming up for when I really do get one".

The final character introduction occurs on Horribly Horrifying when we finally met the lion. Dorothy gets startled by the lion and starts screaming like a cheerleader about to get raped. After a short conversation the lion finally pleades his request... "Do any ya'll motherfxckers no where the hoes at? Maybe on the southwest side, I know a few but straight up I know them hoes ain't trying to fxck you. How about I swipe your head off? How about you relax... I'm only saying these hoes don't fxck half lions like that".

Shiny Diamonds takes a short break from the story, while Violent J sings his heart out about his life back home. This track reminds me of the songs "Homies" and "We Belong" from their previous album The Wraith. "I ain't on some mother you whack motherfxcker. This sh!t for Juggalos, we talking to each other not them other hoes, we shudder those hoes to back rows and crack those faygos while the place explodes".

The Wizard's Palace is the worst possible ending to this entire album. The horns played throughout the entire song is enough to make jump out of a moving train Pee Wee style (refer to his Big Adventure movie). Basically the entire gang walked up into the palace and discovers the wizard is no more than Shaggy 2 Dope dressed in a Fxck Off shirt. And suddenly Violent J awakes to realize it was all a dream. The ending was rushed far to fast, perpaphs everyone's high was wearing off by then?

There are also a total of four bonus tracks, however only two of those four are included on each version. These songs have nothing to do with the Wizard Of The Hood theme. They are basically leftover songs that didn't make it onto other popular Insane Clown Posse albums.

Conclusion:
Violent J's Wizard Of The Hood is the second solo album to come from the Insane Clown Posse duo. Unlike 2 Dope's Fxck Off, this album is filled with creative songs and actually serves a purpose. However, since this is a solo sideshow release, it is really only meant for diehard juggalos who simply must have every Psychopathic Records album ever released. If you don't appreciate these wicked clowns you'll defiantly hate every bit of this album, especially since it's a spoof on the children's movie The Wizard Of Oz. Judy Garland would turn over in her grave if she heard this album! But that's the nature of Violent J, take something sweet and innocent, and make it into something insane.
