galileo365's Full Review: Project 1950 [Limited] by The Misfits (U.S.)
I'm a newly made Misfits fan, but hey,, better late than never! I was first introduced to this band through my friend Pwyll. He is a music buff. He seems to have an extremely good ear for music, so when he told me I'd probably like the Misfits since I'm a total Ramones fan,, I took his advice. He was right! These guys wail!
I first heard a few songs from the CD when I went with Pwyll to see the Misfits at Peabody's Down Under here in Cleveland. I was totally suprised to discover that the Misfits drummer was none other than the legendary "Marky Ramone" The drummer from the Ramones. Let me tell you,, that was totally kick @$$! They did a lot of Ramones tunes, but they did the new ones from the Project-1950 CD. After hearing this live,, I HAD to get the CD. I'm SOOOO glad I did!
Not only does this thing come with the music CD but it comes with a bonus DVD of live concert footage. The best part of it is when they're performing at a ski resort. The fans are wailing Jerry Only and the others with snowballs,, that dude HAD to be freezing because he didn't have his shirt on. (A bonus for chicks like me who love punk guys)
The musical part is like this
This Magic Moment- An excellent remake of the song done by Jay and the Americans (and I think the Drifters) They really give this old tune a boost
Dream Lover- It's early so I think this one was originally done by Bobby Darin,, but I could be wrong. They punked this one up good!
Diana- My musical brain cells are sleeping this morning, but I do believe this song was done by Paul Anka? I like what these guys did to it.
Donna- Originally done by the late Ritchie Valens, this sone was ressurrected by these guys and actually sounds ok.
Great Balls of Fire- A Jerry Lee Lewis classic,, from one Jerry passed on to another Jerry,, the song sounds good.
Latest Flame- Elvis blows dead bears, but the Misfits saved this song with their version. Another punked out oldies tune. Not the best one on the CD though,, only because Elvis tunes always suck no matter who does them.
Monster Mash- Probably their most fitting song. You'd almost think the song was made for these guys.
Only Make Believe- Another song that was saved by the Misfits.
Runaway- The Del Shannon classic. This one in my opinion is the best on the CD. Jimmy Destri of Blondie makes a guest performance in this tune. The keyboards and back up vocals make are mixed excellently, This tune makes the CD.
You Belong To Me- A good tune but wasn't the best one on the CD in my opinion.
The performers of the Misfits aren't the actual Misfits except for one.
Jerry Only of The Misfits(Lead Vocals, Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals) I WANT A DATE WITH THIS GUY!! He looks sooo cool! He's also a very high energy performer.
Dez Cadena of Black Flag (Guitars-lead and rhythm, Backing Vocals)I wouldn't pass up a date with this guy either! He has awesome looking long black hair and he looks so cool!
Marky Ramone of The Ramones (Drums, Percussion, Piano, Backing Vocals) Now this guy is totally awesome! I've seen him perform with and without the Misfits. A high energy performer and a hotty too. (What can I say,, I have a thing for long haired musicians)
This CD/DVD set was well worth the money spent. I enjoy it and am hoping they'll all get together again and do a project-1960. (hint hint)
