shaithis's Full Review: Tattoos and Alibis by Ricky Warwick
Ricky Warwick has gone solo! The frontman for the hard rock outfit The Almighty has been talking about releasing a solo acoustic album and now here it is! Warwick recently toured opening for Def Leppard in North America in support for this album and man, do I wish I could've seen that show.
Fans of The Almighty's ballads and acoustic songs should eat this up. The past couple of new Almighty albums were good but they weren't 'living' in my CD player like their past efforts. This one does!
Tattoos And Alibis is an album full of Warwick acoustic songs so fans of his previous Almighty stuff like Jesus Love You...But I don't, etc. will love this.
You Couldn't Get Arrested (Joe Elliott backing vocals) is instantly one of my favourites along with many others. Warwick's lyrics on this solo effort are as intelligent as ever, really meaningful and of course, not too cheery. Warwick explores all types of relationships and their effect on him. Many of these situations I'm sure most could relate to which immerses you in with the song.
Don't get me wrong, I loved The Almighty, but I also loved their slow acoustic songs they would record on occasion and now I've got a whole new CD of acoustic Warwick! I have always love Warwick's raspy, yet somehow soft voice, it's soothing yet not sissy. I can listen to ballads and still feel like a man!
I saw a web site that mentioned they thought Warwick's sounded Bruce Springsteenish now. Perhaps, I've never really been a big fan of his but I suppose the raspy voices have similarities. I remember liking 'Hey little baby is your Daddy gone, ... whoa I'm On Fire." That's kind of in the vein of the tracks on this album.
The number one track on the whole is Three Sides To Every Story hands down. This is a track I just blast to get me up and going just before I go out. The guitar is catchy and the lyrics stick with you. The chorus 'Three sides to every story, yours...mine...& the truth,' stick in your head long after listening.

"When you've got nothing to lose...you can only win. The Sun comes up and the Sun goes down and you start your day all over again."
Ricky Warwick has just released a follow up CD which I've got to run out and purchase A.S.A.P.!
