Those who enjoy house music are all too familiar with the sounds of Paul Oakenfold. Sometimes place in the electronica genre, Oakenfold’s music has moved the crowd regardless of which label it carries. Mentioning his name will send chills up the spines of clubbers and make DJ’s fingers wiggle as they get ready to play one of his tracks on their turntables. Oakenfold is considered an accomplished world-class remixer. His list of celebrities that he has worked with ranges from Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Fatboy Slim and the list goes on. Oakenfold’s songs have long been a staple in house DJ’s collections for years.


The song titled, “Hypnotised” has five different versions on this single. Hypnotised, was released on September 2003 and is the 8th song on the second disc of the two set album, “Perfecto Presents: Paul Oakenfold – Great Wall”. (Naturally I bought the album)


My favorite version out of the five on the single Hypnotised, is, Deepsky’s Reaktor Radio remix. The song has a bit of an ambiance feel, however the soft melodic female vocals layered over the thumping pulsating bass is hypnotizing. The album version with Tiff Lacey is another hot version. Although new to the dance genre, Lacy has tremendous talent showcasing her unique vocals on this song. Not only do I enjoy her vocals but I also like the ultra heavy dubby beats this song imparts. It has intensity which is hard to walk away from, made even heavier by the smooth synth arrangements and mixing performed by Oakenfold the addition of which adds a uniqueness to a track that is already a hit.


When it comes to song highlights on this CD your selection is small since you get five different versions of he same song. As a bedroom DJ this CD appeals to me on several different levels. First I can play this song over and over again and I don’t get tired of it regardless of how it’s shaken. Second each differently mixed version gives me an opportunity to test my mixing skills and add something different to each song. Trance addicts will enjoy the fourth mix titled, “Deepsky’s Reaktor remix edit).


Overall I highly recommend this CD. For DJ’s who enjoy this genre of music Hypnotised is a must. For Oakenfold fans, this CD single is also a must have regardless of which version you've listened to.
