Great Start by Lyrics Born
Written: Feb 17 '04
Pros:Good production, Great Lyrics when he does rap, Very original and creative music.
Cons:Way too much singing, Not enough of Lyrics Born, some Mediocre Tracks.
The Bottom Line: Some really good tracks, but at the same time some mediocre ones. Overall a good debut album.
I first heard Lyrics Born rap at an Atmosphere show. They had a freestyle session at the end of the show and when I heard him freestyle, I was immediately a fan of his style of lyricism. So I went out the next day and bought his Album, Later That Day. This is my first review, so please feel free to email me any advice or comments you have for me to improve my reviews. Thanks.

It starts out with Bad Dreams, and what a great start it is. This track has a soul feel to it, with Lyrics Born kind of singing. I didn't mind all the singing at all int his first track, but by the next track Rise and Shine I think Lyrics Born went a little overboard. It kind of got annoying. Another track that I really enjoyed was Callin Out, it's a real upbeat song that could liven up any party.
More standout tracks are Do That There ft Cut Chemist, Great production from Cut Chemist, plus Lyrics Born spittting out some dope lyrics. I also thought Cold Call was a pretty good, a change of direction from the other songs. It's a song with a conversation between Lyrics Born and Gift of Gab with a pretty nice beat to it. The two best tracks are The Trumpet ft Lateef and Pack Up in my opinion. The Trumpet ft Lateef featured the action packed lyricism that I wanted to hear when I bought this Album. Pack Up also shows Lyrics Born superiors talents as an MC. Those two songs summed up what I wanted to hear from this Album.
Overall I think this was a good debut album. I think Lyrics Born tried to do something really original and kind of steered from his strengths as a really good lyricist. The Album had some stand out tracks, but at the same time it had a lot of mediocre tracks that were killed by the overuse of singing. I think Lyrics Born will learn a lot from this Album, and I expect him to greatly improve in his next project.
