That's a great memory. My parents (who didn't blast music in the least) had quite a few 8-tracks of Denver (which was oodles better than Barbara Mandrell or Dolly Parton). Anyway, thanks for the comment. Much appreciated. Glad to have brought a smile to your face.

Shelly.

I still think John Denver had one of the best singing voices of his generation of singers and songwriters. Some of his lyrics are a bit simplistic, but he had a good feel for melody and well, that great voice. Nice review. Sheila

John Denver has always been a guilty pleasure. We're all supposed to be too hip and too sophisticated to listen to it but it's something a lot of us secretly like. great review,

Yup. Exactly.

I am definitely too hip (yeah right) to appreciate John Denver.

Haha - this review just makes me think of my rural kin in Northern Michigan. You ain't kiddin' about it all being about country music - you can't find one solid, non-country song on any station (except one out of Cadillac)!!! Of course they all love it and I have to bare with it. Ok, anyhow, stuff you didn't care about - but great review and interesting stuff! Later...

Denver And Lightfoot. (Reply to this comment)
by jeff_wilder78
Shelly.

Reading this review reminded me of how I have the same feeling for Gordon Lightfoot's music that you do for John Denver's. Having been born in Michigan, Lightfoot's music was inescapable. Of course, you have to factor in that my dad was a big Lightfoot fan and would often play his records when I was about 4-5 years old. Like you with Denver, my liking for Gordon's music declined as I got older and got into other styles of music. Until one day when the memories of those old days in Livonia came back and I pulled out my dad's vinyl copy of Lightfoot's greatest hits and put it on. As the opening chords of "Sundown" echoed through the room I was immediately swept back to that time in my life.

Not much point to this story I guess, just that everyone has room in their life and music collection for a singer-songwriter of this type. And great review as always.

Pssst.

Story (albiet brief) about Gordon Lightfoot. My third grade class had to leard his song the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I guess it was some sort of history lesson.
