MajaFiggaz's Full Review: Da Underground Vol. 1 [PA] by Young Buck & D-Tay
The fourth member of G-Unit Young Buck along with his Nashville partner in crime D-Tay, come together to drop Da Underground Vol.1. I know all you guys out there just can't wait for Young Buck's album Straight Outta Cashville so how about getting into the next best thing from Buck and his man D-Tay.
Young Buck as some of you may know originally was a part of Cash Money Records about 4 years ago. Nothing really happened there other then the fact he built a relationship with Juvenile and so when Juvenile left Cash Money, Young Buck left with him and joined his group called UTP. He recorded with Juvenile and even went on tour with Juvi. Juvenile's bus has a studio and Juvi was looking to work with different artists, and guess who's name was bought up? Yup, none other than our favorite rapper Fiddy Cent. Buck was a huge fan and he really wanted a collaboration. 50 ended up coming through along with Lloyd Banks and the often incarerated Tony Yayo. They vibed and the result of it was a song recorded for the 50 cent's The Future Mixtape. It was a little 8 Bar verse but obviously 50 and them was impressed as he later joined G-Unit and recorded a song with 50 on "Get Rich or Die Tryin'.
Howeer I'm not even gonna front, I don't really know too much about rapper D-Tay, so instead of giving a little background on him, i'll just say lets get this review started, and start the review of Da Underground Vol. 1
1. B!tch Before My Dog - 0 - Yes! What do we expect from Young Buck? Socially conscious lyrics? F!ck no we gonna bash b!tches to the day I die! Here Young Buck and D-Tay spits absurdly wack verses about how they will never give money to a b!tch. Now the concept of n!ggaz over b!tches isn't really bad, I mean why should you ditch your boys you knew your whole life for a female that you just met. However, other than the chorus stating they will never put they "B!tch before my dog", this song is nothing but bashing women and it's just wack. The weak production gives "commercialized beat" a new meaning and, man this joint is terrible.
2. Payback's a B!tch - $1/2 - ANother sh!tty beat. D-Tay opens it up and spits some horrendous lyrics spitting with a weak @ss fake Three 6 Mafia-type delivery. Young Buck spits some weak sh!t even though you can appreciate his effort as he tries to express the frustration a man goes through while he sittin up in the cell, thinking of a way to get back the people who are the reason he's locked up. The chorus isn't too bad but D-Tay once again takes it for the first half of the third verse and now adopting a Chingy-like delivery spits some more wack sh!t. Young Buck follows and spits another semi-lukewarm 8 bars.
3. Ya Know - $ - Naa, I don't know how the f!ck you can make a song this f!cking bad. This hard bassline is the only thing good about this beat, as it include some weak @ss effects then when the candy @ss break kicks in you will be ready to retire this album like Ricky Williams. Young Buck actually spits some aight sh!t early on in his verse abvout growing up in the hood, but its obvious that he can't keep his focus and he falters off spitting some really weak sh!t. D-Tay takes the second verse after the wack chorus and its ugly man. I mean this sh!t is plain out egregious. With absolutely embarassing lyrics such as "Tay a n!gga that was raised from these streets/With his hat to the back and a 'lac four deep/". This beat is so terrible man, and combined with D-Tay man, like Lloyd Banks's latest album your @ss will Beg For Mercy for this mess to stop.
4. Drop It - 0 - The semi-screwed chorus kicks in and D-Tay and Young Buck spit some clubby lyrics over a f!cking sh!tty beat. Terrible man. The only good thing about this song is that it's pretty short. Young Buck even tries his hand at throwing us some punchlines and they are so weak, I feel sorry for him.
5. Back on Up - $1/2 - We get another fake @ss Three 6 Mafia joint with some fake Lil Jon-like "HEY!"'s in the background. Young Buck opens up with a madly intense up-tempo rap which i'll admit I'm kinda feeling even though his lyrics are straight wack. Oh and D-Tay?...He's straight wack.
6. Fired Up(feat. Paparue) - $$$ - Even though his beat is commercial as sh!t it isn't nearly as bad as some of the garbage found throught this album. Young Buck gives us some pretty tight(yeah I said it) rhymes about smoking weed. Paparue's chorus is f!cking tight, especially for this type of weed smoking track. Then when he starts rapping its just hilarious. However since the creativity section of D-Tay's brain is an endless void he brings down the track a bit. Then Young Buck kind of falls off for his second verse as he expresses his disgust for cats that sit around and smoke his weed and don't do sh!t for him. Then he kind of brings the track back up when he spits about how some cats become addicts then he falters off again spitting unfocus sh!t about him having the money to smoke, so why not smoke.
7. Don't Play - $$$$ - Young Buck for the first time shows that when he is focused(or at least trying to be) then he can come up with some half decent sh!t. Even though he the production is commercialized as usual this is probably the best beat on the album and Buck spits some above average lyrics as well. "Visions getting blurry now, Try my best to stay on track/I came up in a hurry man, I skipped the backpacks" He spits of how he came up and now that he is gettin paper that haters is sneakin up on him, and through it all he keeps true to his peoples. D-Tay however once again shows that it is impossible to have a really good song with him on it as he spits some straight up wack sh!t about killing his haters. He tries to pick it up at the end however and actually finishes strong, but the wack sh!t he said earlier in his verse can't be excused. After chorus again however is really where Young Buck shines as he actually goes on a lyrical tirade. Spitting some pretty insightful lyrics along with making a huge leap in his usual vocabulary, Young Buck impresses me here as he shows that he isn't playing.
8. Lord Knows - $$$1/2 - Young Buck forgets what he did in the last track and spits about killing anyone who gets in his way. From Haters to Judges and lawyers no one is safe from Young Bucks lyrical anger. Stating that he has to eat so he kills for his. Then comes D-Tay, and lord know's he is wack as f!ck. Claiming he is the reason that "the fiends use thier noses and needles". The chorus comes around again and D-Tay transforms like Optimus Prime into an absolute lyrical behemoth. What the hell? Where did this come from? He rips into it spitting socially conscious lyrics and telling cats that life aint all about Coogi Sweaters and iced out bezzles. His verse alone pulls this track up.
9. Nashville be Cuba - N/A - Skit about Monolo being late for a Scarface meeting because he put his b!tch before his bog.
10. Ride or Die - 1/2 - ANother weak beat and this song features Young Bukc and D-Tay spitting some truely wack raps about killing and sh!t. Yeah, Yeah, heard this bullsh!t before, damn D-Tay what happened to that sh!t ou was spittin, last song?
11. Where The Love At - 0 - Monolo screws Tony Montana out of a package as the beat kicks in. D-Tay and Young Buck once again spit some weak sh!t full of killing and slingin' drugs and sh!t. During the chorus Tony Montana continues to go off on Monolo yell at him and sh!t, while this weak @ss beat damn near drowns them out.
12. Workin' With Somethin' - $$$3/4 - This track starts off with some singing which is pretty good as this candy coated beat kicks in. Young Buck spits about love gone wrong, and he really spits some tight sh!t here. Instead of having him bash the b!tch like your expect from Young Buck he talks about how he caught her messing with his cousin, and how he's done messing with his hood rats as he claims his next chick better be working with somethin'. D-Tay also does a nice job here as he tells cats real men don't hit women, and speaks about just moving on. In the last verse Young Buck f!cks it all up as he bashes chick and goes off subject talkin about making money as sh!t. All in all however this is a pretty good joint to end this album with.
Yeah, for the most part this sh!t is wack as a muthaf!cka but did you really expect more from Young Buck? Well occasionally he and D-Tay actually do put out some hot sh!t. Or at least lukewarm sh!t. Young Buck shows us a different side of him with joints like Fired Up, Don't Play, and Workin' with Somethin', even though for the most part he shows he isn't much more than an average southern rapper. D-Tay however was pretty much terrible throughout the album save what he spit on Lord Knows, and Workin' With Somethin'. If you are a fan of Young Buck's id recommend this to you because you obviously have no idea what wack is, so you'll like this. However anyone else stay away from this sh!t
