Pros: very well composed songs. fans of many genres can get behind this.
Cons: I wish he would vary his style a little. Not well marketed.
The Bottom Line: This is well composed album that just falls short of the full 5 stars. It's marked $10 under everywhere ive seen it, dont burn it... BUY IT.
greendaydm's Full Review: The Story So Far by Zack Hexum
I, like many fans of zack hexum, discovered him through one of my all-time favorite bands: 311. If you arent a big fan of the three one one, don't worry. Nick Hexum's little brother Zack Hexum plays a totally different sound then 311. It's sortof a something corporate-john mayor-jazz hybrid going on. tis neat...now onto the song breakdown!
1.Met A Girl Like You Once
~This is the single off of this album which made a debut on that hit teenage-drama show The O.C. It's got some nice progression and is very aestheticly pleasing although the lyrics might be a turnoff for non-OC teenage girls...but most songs on here are lovesongs anyway!

2.Sun Still Shines
~Begins with a funky breakbeat drumming into some organ-acoustic guitar pattern. The chorus is kindof...mmm...iffy. He bring the breakbeat in later in the song and cut it in nicely.

3.How Many Times
~This doozys alright, it has some nice electric bomp-bomp-guitar one measure solo in it. It's not a very memorable song but it's a good listen.

4.Simple City
~I love this one. Grand piano intro into some nice vocals by the young kid then into some hot elektrik guitar action. I love the progression. The piece comes together supa' nicely.

5.Princess of Darkness
~Some nice jazz flavoring in this one. Hardcore beat-piano chorus littered throughout. It's got a very mellow-mood to it.

6.Spicy Streak
~Now this ones hot (yes, the pun was intended). This doozy was played craig kilboune and twas spectacular. But I digress. the chorus is so well composed and well written. what can i say but: "Its the spicy streak that makes me want you."

7.Outside Opinion
~Finnaly a song not about relationships! Anyway...It's got some fake build ups that are funny. HA. metro music piano/acoustic guitary song.

8.All I Want
~Mmmm now thats some zesty guitar. Probably the 'hardest' rockin' song on the disc. But of course breaks down into some chill guitar lick. once again a relationship song... why i never...well it is an easy subject to write about.

~This one is single material. Many a johnmayor fans would like this one. At times it's happy sounding but at times its got a negative vibe... its ying-yangy.

~This little dealy has some hot vocal sounds from the youngen... but I dont know, this one sounds like an album filler, nothing too original going on, but its still adequate.

11.One Spin
~I heart this one. Zack busts out his mad saxaphone skills, extremely talented on the sax that one is. This one has a nice "metal" sounding guitar but blends into the metro sound real nice. cheers.

Everyone I expose zack hexum to has never heard of him before!!? Someone really dropped the ball on marketing this album! Be sure to go into this with an open mind, it may have john mayor vibes, but its definately original in flavor.
