I am the first to admit, I am 27 years old and yes, I like the Boy Bands. I have Backstreet Boys, N SYNC, and 98 Degrees CD's which I actually enjoy grooving to in the car. So what's the difference between O-Town and the others? The sad truth, they were put together by money and power, no sweat, no tears, and really no rejection as well. I think the things that O-Town missed out on, are the TRUE facts which makes the other bands "real."
With that said, I wanted to hear what O-Town finally produced after the drama performances on "Making of the Band." I am what they wanted, someone who saw the show and now wants to hear the CD, I am guilty as charged.
Let's start with the look of this CD.......I'm sorry, I can't seem to stop laughing. The cover is so cheesy, all the boys look like they just stopped crying or they need to relieve themselves before they burst! From left to right you can see Jacob, Dan, Trevor, Eric, and Ashley. They all match in their denim and red shirts, but again, it doesn't look natural, it looks to uniformed, to fake.
Next is their music..........hmm, how to start this. Let's take it song by song.
#1- Liquid Dreams- this is the pathetic song that they TRIED to sing at the Miss America Pageant in which they fell on their faces with! An up beat song that will get you tapping your feet, but probably trying to smash the CD! This song is all about the perfect women in the Media today who are mass produced themselves- basically a boy's dream in the stages of puberty.
#2- Every Six Seconds- I should tell all of you parents, that there is no way on EARTH your teens should be listening to this CD- here is why! Basically every song has some kind of sexual innuendos in it- this song is a rock type beat talking about "your body quaking, and getting some."
#3- Girl- yet another song that drops sexual hints here and there that you would think all these boys think about is sex and love, couldn't they sing about something other than that? I understand, there aren't many songs about Monster Truck Rallies and Wrestling, but puhhhhhleaze, stop singing about SEX!
#4- Sexiest Woman Alive- a slow ballad that talks about how sexy a woman you are, and yeah, right, the whole time I'm thinking "What a great message for all of those 13 year olds."
#5- Love Should Be A Crime- basically this is Jacob's love child. He was shown numerous times working on this song on the show, and I will admit I do like it, it doesn't seem to fit with the other songs on the CD.
#6- Shy Girl- a pop ballad song, not to bad, but mumbled words make it hard to understand and you can't look them up in the cover because they aren't there either!
#7- All Or Nothing- another ballad, I did take a liking to this song, the first 10 times, now I can't escape it on the Radio! The song describes how when someone stray from a relationship and you want them all there or nothing at all (sometimes MENTALLY they will never be ALL there! LOL)
#8- Sensitive- Another type ballad, hard to believe, a boy band would make so many ballads huh? lol
#9- The Painter- another love ballad, sick of them yet? A beautifully worded song, just sang by the wrong group of guys!
#10- Take Me Under- A very boring song with no pizzaz or life, listened to it once, that was enough.
#11- All For Love- oh, all you MAKING OF THE BAND fans know what I am talking about when you skip this on the CD, right?
Why is that?? Because they practiced this song, OVER, and OVER, and OVER again on the show! This is the song that Ikika was a part of before he left. Trust me, this song is so ANNOYING that you will train your CD player to skip it!
#12- Baby I Would- another song that band member, Ikika, was a part of before leaving the group. Another love ballad that stretches these boys vocal cords for miles upon miles- if you want to hear a boy hit puberty, this is the song to hear them crack! Ever seen the Brady Bunch episode where Peter cracks his voice? Well, welcome to a flashback of the Brady Bunch!
#13- We Fit Together- I really love the beat and tempo of this song, but the words again are in the sexual context that I would never have children or teens listen to. They sang this on New Years on MTV and it talks about "Triple X Dreams" and I see these young girls singing the words and I just cringe!
So there you have it, a CD full of basically manufactured voices and music, with no tone or quality, but everything to do with sex, love, and influences that are touching lives to young to understand. As for myself and other adults, some songs are fun to groove to in the car, but I would rather put N SYNC back in my CD player.
