Opinion Summary
American Idiot: Kinda like Lays' Potato Chips...
by blindsider | Feb 4, 2005
Pros: Instant catchiness. "Give Me Novacaine". "Wake Me Up When September Ends". "Holiday".
Cons: The immediate "THIS ALBUM IS PERFECT" reaction is kind of, sort of only temporary. Careful.

Hey! You've commented a couple times on my reviews, so I decided to comment back. I've read most of your reviews and we think very much alike. Anyways, I noticed you mentioned you don't own any GD albums other than this one. I strongly recommend checking them out, namely Dookie, Insomniac, and especially Nimrod. Try to avoid Warning. Well, keep commenting!

I see I'm the only one who likes "She's A Rebel" the best. It starts out typical Green Day fashion with 3 chords, but it gets really awesome by the end! "Give Me Novocain" is my 2nd fave.

hahah, hey, Andy!

Yeah, I can see myself always thinking that this is a good album. It's just that - in my case - its appeal seems to have sorta worn off a bit. Not a whole lot, as I still think this album is way above average! Ahhh, and as far as "Give Me Novacaine", "Wake Me Up When September Ends", and "Holiday" - I don't think I could ever get sick of those. :)

Thanks for commenting :)

...NO! aaaargh!! okay, i've had this album for about, eh, half a year (?) now, and i've always had a good ear for album longevity. this is one of those albums i'll just never get tired of. i COULD play it 24/7/365 and not get sick of it. so there.

nyah.

okay, now that the childish rant part of my comment is over, i'll just point out that... "wake me up when september ends" is basically the less capable brother of "boulevard of broken dreams", and henceforth one of the worst tracks on the album (it's still good, mind). oh, and the latter has not yet quite been played to death on UK radio. and i don't even listen to radio. so i'm not sick of it. i don't think i ever will be.

and i feel like i have to agree with you about something here, so... tre' cool is an astonishing drummer. much better than *spit* travis barker. ugh!

you know you love the controversy ;)

Oooh, "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is perfection indeed. Lately I've been listening to "Extraordinary Girl" and "Holiday" the most. :) Thanks for commenting.

Favourites (Reply to this comment)

I can't even begin to tell you how much I've pondered a favorite track on this album, because there are so many good points in all of them.

I have the exact same problem. If I HAD to pick a favourite, I'd probably say the fantastic "Are We The Waiting", but I love "Give Me Novacaine" as well, then there's "St. Jimmy" between those two. The first four tracks are amazing as well ("Holiday" will stay at number one for a long time, mark my words), and I'm particularly fond of track eight onwards too.

Anyway, that's enough rambling from me.

Excellent review.

Dean.
