Written: Aug 13 '01 (Updated Jul 02 '02)
Pros:Majority of the Songs, Doesn't centralize on one music genre
Cons:A few waster tracks but some people may like those ones
The Bottom Line: The movie was great and implemented a variety of music genres into the soundtrack. A great collection of music from the past and present!

THIS REVIEW HAS 1000 HITS! WOW!

What you are about to read is the last of a series of 3 reviews all involved with the September 2000 release of the movie entitled Snatch. The first was in the books category which is worth a look. Secondly, I have given an overview of the DVD that I purchased about a month or so ago, and finally the soundtrack is ready to be commented and analyzed for your listening and reading pleasure. If you have read my past 2 previous reviews then you understand that I would sacrifice an arm for a viewing of the movie if I somehow lost the dvd, the book and all video stores were wiped off the face of the planet.

This is my first soundtrack review in the Music category and I will be basically talking about it the same way as I do with the other songs and albums reviewed.

Music is always a key factor in a movie that I take into consideration when I watch it. Run Lola Run for example is a short foreign film that deserves a 4 out of 5, but because of the background music, I gave it a 5 out of 5 for its sick beats.

To quote Mickey the Pikey (Brad Pitt in the movie Snatch) .... "You're not going anywhere .... you stay until the job (my review) is done!" ;)

1) Kuasehfgaiurgh

Okay, already you are dying to get out of this review because of the stupidness of this title, let me clue you in. Mickey is a pikey in the movie that speaks jibberish and what we have here is a 4 second clip of himself explaining what he wants. There is no way you will ever be able to interpret it unless you have Snatch : The Shooting Script, so don't even try to play it a zillion times. You won't get it.

Score : 8/10 (Funny way to start off the cd; thats why it gets an 8!

2) Diamond - Klint

The song Diamond by Klint was an excellent choice that suits the theme of the movie Snatch. Any other genre of music would not suffice. The lowest bass beats on a bass guitar, a solid and swift drumbeat along with some mixture of unknown beats give the song its catchiness. Vocals don't appear in the track. I think the song gets everyone ready for the next track. An electric guitar takes the final stretch followed by a repetition of the chorus at the beginning. The song is very soothing to
the ear.

Score : 8/10

3) Supermoves - Overseer

Supermoves by Overseer is an awesome change to techno beats in the song. The soothing song you just heard has prepared us for a hardcore techno, electronic beat. If you have heard Firestarter by the UK group Prodigy then you will love this song. Every 4 or so repetitions of the main chorus, an added beat shows up, whether it be "Wooo, eeee" or "Check this out". Interludes of an electric guitar and slowdown pauses give the song an advantage over any other techno song in my opinion. The song was played during one of the action scenes in the movie Snatch, a suitable moment to do it wouldn't you say for a techno song. Traces of Pump Up The Volume are evident in the track, a little something I noticed. It carries the same sort of pattern of beats. Nearing the ending of the song, Supermoves carries the same characteristics of House music songs ... the immediate and sharp pause to slow down which prepares for a powerbeat to get a crowd jumping and going out of their wickers.

Score : 9/10

4) Hernando's Hideaway - The Johnston Brothers

The Johnston Brothers' Hernando's Hideaway starts off with either an instrument that mimicks snapping or have about 5 background men snapping their fingers in a sequence of tenths of a second. This song sounds like something my parents would dance to at a charity ball. It has a Russian Waltzy tone that seemed like a song that would fit a scene of calmness. I must admit that it is very catchy and you will be humming it after as your sub-conscience stores it away for later. Don't you hate when that happens? I was laughed at for singing NSync - Tearing Up My Heart one day in class, ughh!

Score: 7/10

5) Golden Brown - The Stranglers

If you do a search on any of the new music programs to download music, this is the first of two most popular songs from the soundtrack to be downloaded. I must admit, it is one of the best on the soundtrack. It plays in the scene where Mickey heroically knocks out Gorgeous George in
what seemed to be a fight that Mickey was positively insane in fighting. But the one punch machine gun knocked the dopey 6 foot boxer out and a sequence of cameras hovering and rotating over his unconscious body occurs while The Stranglers sing Golden Brown. It has no excitement the song but has a sort of organ beat that you would hear in
church.

Our offeratory hymn is on page 112, Golden Brown by the Stranglers and Sister Agnes will be doing vocals

This would be a great song for a movie such as Robin Hood. It has that sort of outdoor feeling to it. My favorite track on the cd and definitely a favorite amongst my friends as well.

Score : 10/10

6) Dreadlock Holiday - 10CC

This track is a reggae and blues mixed type of song. It's nothing like the vocals of Bob Marley but a bass of Marley. The song is not too appealing and is definitely a snoozer. I don't recall this song in the film but I must assume it was played during a time when Tyrone and Solomon were around. No spice to the song whatsoever, nothing to get excited about.

Score : 4/10

7) Hava Nagila - John Murphy

This song opens up the beginning of the movie with Mutti and the gang of jews dressed up ready to steal the diamond. It is the instrumental and horned version of a Russian dance which I think peaks with "Hey, hey, hey!". It's a song that everyone has heard once in their lifetime. It
gets quite energetic and you just want to get up and grab someone and join arms and kick your feet out.

Score : 6/10

8) Avi Arrives

This is another clip from the movie involving New York based jeweller Avi talking on the phone with Doug the Head and his arrival in London. This was definitely one of the funniest scenes in the movie and I would like to share it with you.

Do you got a toothbrush? We're going to London, do you hear that Doug?! Im coming to London! *Cab door slams*Sound of plane ticket stamping*Plane takes off*Takes a shot*Cab door slams*

Avi!!!

Shut up and sit down you big bald fvck!

I was in hysterics when I heard this in the movie and hearing this again on audio brought back that humourous feeling.

Score : 10/10

9) Cross The Tracks (We Better Go Back) - Maceo & The Macks

Pimpster song, a New York Pimpster song! What made me laugh about this song is the truck backing up beat along with the 1980's porno music. This is definitely a song you would visualize in your head, people with the retro pants and fros the size of the Empire State Building. The horn
blasting in the song as a beat is incredibly annoying though. It fit the scene it was played in very nicely so I guess it was a great choice. But as a song to listen to on its own, its mediochre.

Score : 6/10

10) Disco Science - Mirwais

This is the second of the two songs that are the most enjoyable on the cd and popular in the mp3 databases of the Internet world. The song starts with a beat like Diamonds (Track 2) and flows throughout the song to keep you bopping your head. Its a trippy slower than normal techno song with throbbing beats. Whipping sounds go on as well and added beats make the song complete. All put together and the "Mmmm" lyrics make the song very catchy. This song comes from the scene in the movie where they are bagging Tyrone as well as the scene where the hare is running away from the dogs - the bet that Turkish made with Mickey over
a caravan.

Score : 10/10

11) Nemesis

Track 11 is another clip by Bricktop in Snatch, the pr|ck boxing promoter that he is. Its a scene where he meets the 3 black dudes and sits down for a tea and explains his definition of Nemesis. The voice is annoying and you want to bash Bricktop with a chair over the noggin. That little sh|te

"Do you know what Nemesis means ..... a righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent, personified by an honorable cvnt .... ME!"

Score : 8/10

12) Hot Pants (I'm Coming, Coming, I'm Coming)

This is an old somewhat of a rap song by Bobby Ford. It sounds exactly like Duran Duran's White Lines. Its another 80's retro song and as well as another snoozer. It seems the singer is after some girl in Hot Pants and he is either coming or coming. Get me? The guitar beats are sort of cool to listen to but overall as a song a definite skipper.

Score : 6/10

13) 13. Lucky Star - Madonna

It seems that Madonna has a song in every movie .... this time we travel back in time to one of her earlier albums and play it in a flashback scene of Bullet Tooth Tony taking 6 bullets in the chest by an Oriental man at a strip bar and watching him survive to machete his butt. We also hear this song in the scene where he has an enquiry about a man. He hangs a man out his window with the power window up to his throat. The song plays and he has no mercy for the man in the window, totally ignores him and says "I love this track!". If you are familiar with Madonna's old music then you will love this track. You need not be a fan to like the song; just recall the scene and you will be laughing and be totally ignorant to the song!

Score : 7/10

14) Ghost Town - The Specials

This is another song that is sort of a carbon copy of Disco Science but in a slower motion. The instrumentals and jazzy instrumentals make for a soothing and great flowing song. The vocals are very quiet and sometimes get eerie when you hear these singers sing "Ieeee, Ahhhhh, AHH AHH" and all this jibberish. It's an alright song to listen to. The whole song is very quiet and eventually you will get bored of it.

Score : 6/10

15) Are You there - Klint

The same artist Klint makes a second appearance with the song Are You There. It is very dull and a song that would only be used as a sample for trying out a music player at an electronics store. I thought Diamonds was done pretty well and I expected a nice hyper sort of song
like that but was wrong. With 1 minute left, the song goes into a rock sequence of beats. I don't understand why they waited so long to add these in.

Score : 5/10

16) Sensual Woman - The Herbaliser

The song starts off with a women talking about sexuality and how she will close her eyes and remove her clothes. Abruptly, the tone changes to a relaxing jazzy beat. It sound similar to that of Diamonds. Come to think of it ... most of the songs derive from that track. The Sensual Women talks about sexual fantasies and positions and how she wants to know if she'll bounce on melted jello. The background music is good but her talking gets annoying after a while and you just wanna club her. She goes on to say that 3 words aren't bad words when in fact they are the most insulting words in the English language when used in a sexual context. The song is very lame and plain.

Score : 5/10

17) Angel - Massive Attack

This song sounds like a track that would be played during Jurassic Park; walking through the jungle and hearing the sounds of bushes rattling and pesky insects speaking their way. The song has a really slow b.p.s. so don't expect it to be a song like the Vengaboys would play. The guitar and drums that are added half way through carrying the same bps are great. The vocals are pretty easy enough to understand. The "love me, love me, love me" part is the best because this is where all the instrumentals come together.

Score : 9/10

18) F**kin' In The Bushes - Oasis

Although I hate Oasis with a passion, I will still reserve them their paragraph in this review. Sounds of U2 and Led Zepplin are audible within the song. The cd changes to a rock effect and rock fans can be happy about this because most of the songs on this soundtrack are that of techno or slow easy rock. The beats are great in this song but the lyric "Children are running around naked F**kin' in the Bushes" is so stupid. Figures, ... its Oasis

Score : 7/10

19) Don't You Just Know It - Huey Piano Smith & The Clowns

This song is in almost every movie and I say that in spite of the amount of times I have heard it in movies; the "every" entails the over-exaggeration. This song is definitely a 1950's or 1960's song and is known as one of the greatest. How I know this? My dad walked in while I was listening to it and said "Wow, now that's good music .... this was one of the best ever made" .... yeah whatever Dad. Although they sound like a bunch of turkeys and I really mean that ...... "Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh, Ahhh", "Gooba Gooba Gooba". Its a catchy song but nothing I would do the twist to.

Score : 8/10

20) Avi's Declaration

Simply a clip from the near end of the movie to finish off the soundtrack. Avi arrives back from London in New York and is asked if he has anything to declare ... Avi simply replies ....

Yeah Don't go to England!

Final Thoughts on the Snatch Soundtrack

Although, I would rather want a whole techno and house soundtrack, rather than putting 80's songs, rock songs, 60's songs and other rap and reggae. But having all these genres suits the buyers' preference at least once. Unless you like classical, then you got screwed over. Watching the movie will definitely encourage you to buy the soundtrack because you are able to recall certain scenes as you listen to them and either laugh or remember how cool a part was.
