Pros:Complex, Cold/Synthetic/Computer Sounds, Lots of Layers, Vocals, etc.
Cons:N/A
The Bottom Line: If you like complex electronic music, buy this record now.
About Mind.In.A.Box:
To be honest with you, I don't know a lot about Mind.In.A.Box. But what I do know is that they're an Electropop/Futurepop duo from Germany consisting of members Stefan Poiss and Markus Hadwiger. I also know they're electronic visionary's, and they're absolutely brilliant at creating electronic soundscapes.
About Dreamweb:
What I know about Dreamweb is that this is a huge improvement from what I have heard of their first record, and it's one of my favourite electronic records of 2005.
1. Tape Evidence
Tape Evidence isn't a song so much as it is an intro the album. It creates this atmosphere that kind of gives you an idea of the feelings and emotions that they want to capture. It kind of expresses this state of confusion as he's realizing a world away from his own mind, in a sense becoming free from his entrapped mind. Hence the name Mind.In.A.Box. He says that he's dreaming, and in his dreams he has visions of this record.
Rating:Can I really rate something that's not a song? Well as an intro, I guess I give it a 9 or a 10. :)
2. Certainty
We start the album off with his deep vocals gently speaking into the microphone, they sound mildly processed, mostly to enhance their clarity. The indistinct pounding of a distorted bass drum pounds in the background, and the soundstage lights up with bright "pin drop" synths and layer upon layer of processed, voco'ed and otherwise vocals. Moving forward we have 2 or 3 more layers of synths, creating this incredible electronic environment. The sound is almost surreal, that's how amazing it is. You're just surrounded by this entourage of sounds and textures and atmosphere, you begin to "fall" into the record, and the state of confusion begins to affect you as you leave your own trapped existence. He even expresses his state of disillusionment in the song "Why do you keep me from certainty? / How could you take it away from me?". Absolutely brilliant song.

3. Lament For Lost Dreams
Moving forward, he's in the middle of the chaos "I saw myself from afar / and could not comprehend", he's now broken free of the confinement of his own mind. The song has extremely heavily processed vocals, to the point where there is no indication that they are human whatsoever. You're just thrown into this completely digital environment, your ears almost hear the music entirely in 1's and 0's. This is close to my favourite electro song ever.

4. Machine Run
I don't know what's up with the guitars on this song, I don't really care for them that much. I think this song just seems out of place because it comes right after Lament For Lost Dreams so it's a little strange, that's all. Somewhere a bit after 1 minute in, the song gets a lot better though, and it makes sense in terms of the progression of the record. It's just the music that throws you off. "But everything seemed to end up in endless circles / What had come right before coming back over and over again." gently glides over twinkly synths, he's still struggling to let himself go free, and he keeps going back to the start. Overall not a bad song.
Rating:7/10
5. Loyalty
This song is where he begins to reveal the love story that's tangled in between. You could relate it to the story of the CD, but this is where it begins to get complex. it's not really a bad song, but it doesn't really have anything special about it either other than introducing you to that part of the story. At least it's not out of place with the album.
Rating:6/10
6. Sun and Storm
This song has a kind of Industrial beat and synths. It's about the continuation of his journey. "On a path I cannot see / So I left it all behind, for a future where I'm free". It's only real charm is the Industrial kind of sound to it, though. Wonder what he means by "I left it all behind"?
Rating:6/10
7. Out Of Time
This is also one of the better tracks on the CD, it's where the FuturePop in this duo really kicks in. This song is talking about going through untold time, in effect he is trying to achieve freedom but he must make sacrifices in order to achieve it. In this song he's sort of in a place that's in between. "No one knows his destination, forever paying for his crime / Lost alone in alienation, forever floating out of time".
Rating:9/10
8. Dead End
This is another song that sort of starts out weird, but about 3 minutes in the good parts come. This song has more to do with the love song earlier. Overall it's an okay song.
Rating:6/10
9. The Dream
This song also doesn't get good until a little bit in. "Leaving behind all that you had known before / Still confused, but you can feel that there is so much more". In this song he is beginning to understand, but he is not yet free. The pin drop synths on this song are quite good. :)
Rating:7/10
10. Reflections
I dunno what this song is supposed to be, really it's just a summary of the album and more of what was in Tape Evidence. I usually press next on this song.
Rating:NA/10
11. Between Worlds
"You thought your life is fully defined / A straight line, everything seemed so clear" he sings towards the beginning. This song kind of explains what happens to him in his struggle in between worlds. It highlights part of their style where it gets quiet, then the synths kick back in full force again. I really like that. :)
Rating:8/10
12. Escape
"I didn't think I would be so sad / but without you I cannot escape" now he understands that in order to free his mind from this box, he needs her. This whole record ended up being a love story. At least, that's how I interpret it. It's a really complex and involved and beautiful and brilliant record and this is a good song to end it with, I suppose. :)
Rating:7/10
Dreamweb Summary
This has to be the best electronic record I've heard so far in 2005. It's certainly one of the most complex records I've ever heard, both musically and poetically.
