Miles Davis himself considered this one of his best and favorite albums. What other praise does a listener need than from the crown prince of Jazz music. Miles' beautiful tone and Gill Evans' lush orchestrations are at peak form in this album. Their rendition of the Concerto de Arjuanez is absolutely splendid. This is considered the peak of the Evans-Davis partnership that produced Miles Ahead, Porgy and Bess, and Quiet Nights. While all of these recordings are recommended, it is this recording that perfectly encapsulates and is the link between jazz and classical music. Rarely in any music at all does one hear the exquisite color, timbre, and attention to tone as in Sketches of Spain, a jazz masterpiece.
