About Me: I can now die happy... I've seen Metallica live :)

While their first was progress this is where they Start Something

Written: Feb 12 '04 (Updated Mar 26 '04)
Pros:A great mixture of melody and energetic hard rock.
Cons:One or two filler tracks.
The Bottom Line: Lostprophets produce prehaps the best 'Nu-Metal' CD of the past couple of years, so go out and buy it!

Lostprophets are:
Ian Watkins - Vocals
Mike Lewis - Guitar
Lee Gaze - Guitar
Stuart Richardson - Bass
Mike Chiplin - Drums
Jamie Oliver - Samples and Vocals

Lostprophets are a 'Nu-Metal' band from Wales, a small country in the U.K. who mix great catchy melodies and hard rock. While their first album (TheFakeSoundOfProgress)was great, I felt they needed to expand and make their next album progress (pun very intended). And I feel with this album they have done much more than that, I think that they have done what most 'Nu-Metal' bands cannot do, and that is combine a good hook with good lyrics.

The Album starts off with a great opening track titled We Still Kill The Old Way It Starts off with Jamie Oliver showing what he can do on the decks and then there is a 40 second head banging riff. When Watkins begins to sing you know that the album going to be something special. I really like the chorus on this track.

See it all, I see it all
Still kill, still kill the old way
I'm gonna die before I fold
And try to sink me

The next great track on here is the second single from the CD Last Train Home this is my second favorite track on the CD. The first time I heard it I had to hear it again to make sure my ears weren't deceiving me, there was harmony, great emotion, a great hook and no screaming. The Lostprophets boys seem as though this track was written effortlessly, just the way it flows is brilliant. Ian Watkins again produces another killer chorus.

But there's still tomorrow
Forget the sorrow
And I can be on the last train home
Watch it pass the day
As it fades away
No more time to care
No more time, today

Burn Burn The first real track which is pretty heavy throughout is also the first single from the CD and there is a good reason for that. This song is full of energy, which is produced by a great riff and vocals. This song sounds familiar to Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja From their first CD, but not so similar it could be the same song. The chorus as always is really good with Jamie Oliver screaming and Ian Watkins giving a great sung piece.

Another song which is full of energy is the title track Start Something This song is about turning over a new leaf and starting again. The chorus isn't as strong as on some of the others but still strong. And the song ends with a nice piano riff which leads into my favorite track of the album A Million Miles. I don't know how many times I've heard this track but I'm still not sick of it. I can relate really well to the lyrics, because I moved 5 thousand miles from England to Canada (but I won't bore you :) ). The first time I heard this track I got goose bumps, the emotion that Ian Watkins was giving was amazing. But my favorite part is where the symphony kicks in, and Watkins begins singing the chorus.

Conclusion: This album really took my by surprise. I really didn't expect this from a band whose debut although good, didn't really grab my attention outside of 5 or 6 songs. Even though there are a lot of CD's coming out this year, to me this will be album of the year contender in my book.

P.S This is my first review so I hope I will improve :)
