benraiben's Full Review: Toys In the Attic by Aerosmith
I am a great fan of Aerosmith, both past and present. The fact that Aerosmith has changed slightly doesn't really bother me.
The CD's casing has great illustrations on it. The toys coming alive from a toy chest look kind of spooky. I have to say, the ghostly logo "Aerosmith" at the top of this album's casing is one probably my favourite. At the back of my version of the CD is a picture of the band in an attic around a toy chest and a rocking horse, as well as the track listing.
This is one of my Aerosmith albums, which has a case that has lucky enough to have been cracked or broken due to my clumsy nature.
The tracks on this album being:
1.Toys in the attic
2.Uncle Salty
3.Adam's apple
4.Walk this way
5.Big ten inch record
6.Sweet Emotion
7.No more no more
8.Round and round
9.You see me crying
As usual, as I write about the track, I will be listening to each one.
Toys In The Attic: The album starts off with the song in which the album takes it's name from.A great opening song in my opinion and one of the highlights of the album. The fast paced guitar at the start is effective and the song has a nice beat through out. One of the best lines being: Leaving the things that are real behind" which is accompanied by great guitar playing. Tyler's pauses while singing the lyrics really make this song great. The chorus, consisting of: Toys, Toys, Toys in the attic" is great. A spooky song that leaves you wondering what things may be lurking in your attic...! A great rock song. I will say it again, the guitar twangs on this track are great.
Uncle Salty: A slow beat and guitar through out. Good instrument playing and singing. However the song isn't anything special. I just can't seem to get in to this one. I think if the tempo was a bit more faster I may have warmed to it a bit more. Still,a nice contrast from the previous track.
Adam's Apple: A slightly faster tempo than before, and includes a bit of Tyler's famous shouting. I think this song is an highlight also. A nice solid chorus.
Walk This Way: Starting off with some bass, and then Perry's guitar. Tyler does a great job at sining this song. I think one of the most famous funky guitar noises takes place in this song, which sounds near the start of the song. Most people that are not Aerosmith fans know of this song, probably due to the version created with RUN DMC. I prefer this version better, simply because the other has been on the TV and radio so much! Another highlight.
Big Ten Inch Record: A short song, 2:16 in duration. Starts off with a kind of clumsy noise, and then gets funky. I actually like this song, it is quite funny and makes me smile when I hear it.I really enjoy the line: " Record of the band that plays the blues,Well the band that plays the blues!. I am not sure if this song is very well known of, when I have mentioned it, people have been like: "What!?". This is an highlight, shame it is short track. A nice rock song.
Sweet Emotion: Starts off with some strange noises and then some bass slams on along side the lyrics: "Sweet Emotion". Then Tyler continues singing the rest of the song, briefly taking a pause between each line, in which a funky guitar sounds. There are so many good lines in this song, and all flows nicely. " I pulled in to town in a police car!. Towards the end of the song is no singing, but we are treated to all the instruments pounding away together.
No More No More: Well, I was originally going to say I did not care much for this song. However, while listening to it, I have realised I actually like this song. Starts off with a nice guitar, some bass slams in, and then the song gets going. A good track.
Round And Round: The last rock song on the album, as the next track is a power ballard. Guitar, bass, everything a rock song usually consists of. This track lasts for 5 minutes 3 seconds.
You See Me Crying: I personally like this song. Starts off with a sad sounding piano lifts up slightly, and then Tyler starts his singing. Some nice guitar playing in this track. The music lifts up accordlingly to the chorus, which is nice. "Honey what you done to your head?" Around half way through the song Tyler changes his voice to suit the song as it builds up. Sounds slightly orchestral in the background. One of my favourite parts of this is when the track reaches the 2:50 marker. An highlight of the album.
High Points: Toys In The Attic, You See Me Crying, Big Ten Inch Record, Walk This Way, Adam's Apple, Sweet Emotion.
