Pros: Rare robotic voice combined with background makes an unforgettable music experience.
Cons: Slightly repetitive; song is slightly underdeveloped--it ended too soon!
The Bottom Line: Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" is one of the few songs you can't forget--even if you've only heard it once.

| imprimis2's Full Review: Harder Better Faster Stronger [Single] by Daft Pun... |
And now for something completely different....Daft Punk!
Actually, we'll get to the review of this song in just a moment, but first, this important tidbit:
Just for those of you who are still scratching your head, it's "Hearkening to the Future...by Going Back in Time."
Okay, now that we have that out of the way, let's talk music.
You'll begin to realize just how Daft Punk makes your mind work once you listen to this robotically enthused hit, entitled "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."
The song starts off with an unusual humming sound that reminds me of something closest to an idling diesel truck. We then have a static-like sound effect (which sounds like it's coming out of a drive-in parking lot speaker) masking repetitive drumbeats and synthesizer chords.
Soon enough, the static fades away, and full drumbeat and synthesizer harmonies commence, making for a very 70's retro feel. Oddly enough, although I personally can't stand most 70's music, this one has a difference to it: the robot.
Don't read the lyrics to this song or you'll probably end up losing interest. What sucks you into the song is the force of the repetitive and sickly addictive drumbeat combined with a digitized robotic voice to bring it all together. The robot asserts:
"Work it, make it, do it, makes us,
Harder, better, faster, stronger.
This basically goes on for the duration of the song, but it is at approximately the 1:38 mark where the robot's lyrics become less disjointed and fill into one fluid melody. It's quite the combination, and you'll probably wind up moving around in your chair---or at least bopping your head or tapping your foot.
Sure, it's a good song--but what does it all mean?
Well, of course, it's about the development of society and business in general. Why else would there be a robot singing it? It's a robot's "mission statement" to work harder, better, faster, stronger---more than hour, our never----ever, after, work is, over. Work it, make it, do it, makes us, harder, better, faster, stronger."
Yeah, they do work hard for us. We have some great technology out there, and this song essentially captures this message without using any more than about 30 words.
Can you possibly be any more efficient?
Not only that, the robot's pitch changes throughout the song to actually accompany the melody in the background! It is sometimes dizzying if you really get into it, because you can't distinguish between the robot and the lyrics, and you can't decide whether it should be a guitar or a synthesizer. It's uniformly one of the most intriguing songs I've listened to in a long time.
I won't drag down the positive attitude too much, but I did want to mention that I happened to listen to Kanye West's version of this song, and in all actuality, I heard West's version before Daft Punk's---and to make it brief, I'll say that I ditched West's version for this one.
Looking for a "different" type of music? Something simplistic and complex at the same time? You might want to try listening to "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger." It's a definite keeper.
