DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979, in a number of ways, is a microcosm of contemporary Indie Rock. They (bassist/synth player Jesse F. Keeler, drummer/vocalist Sebastien Grainger) are from Canada; their music is simultaneously embedded in raunchy Indie Rock and candy-eared Tecnopop. Accordingly, they were cited as an influence by Tecnoraunchers from Brazil CANSEI DE SER SEXY (Let's Make Love And Hear Death From Above); they toured with NINE INCH NAILS and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE; they are darlings of fashionable people, not only for their enigmatic yet elaborate sleeves.

So, what about their music? Blood On Our Hands is what happens when MOTORHEAD meets DURAN DURAN. Nowadays? It is WOLFMOTHER colliding with THE KILLERS.

Grainger bleeds his lungs out and keeps a steady sparse beat while Keeler sails on with loads of moods and studio wizardry. Eclectic people with boundless music tastes would enjoy this kind of stuff in the 1980s as the way of the future; time made justice to them, as in the 2000s, it sounds like bread and butter. But vintage bread and Buffalo butter, of course. This is quintessential Indie-Raunch-Tecno-Pop for the trendsetters, if not the masses.

That's why the Justice Mix of Blood On Our Hands sounds a dry run for this group. They played ahead of time, not accordingly to it. It sounds predictable and conformist, any LCD SOUNDSYSTEM could afford a better B-Side.
