Faerie_tears's Full Review: God [Maxi Single] by Tori Amos
I first bought the maxi single "God" because I was sure I had to have all of Tori's cds. When I peeled back the shrink wrap and placed the $7 disc into the player, I had no idea I was about to be indulged in such a piece of art.
I am a major fan, so there was no doubt in my mind that I would enjoy what I was hearing, but I had no idea that the single would be so diverse in its flavor. The sounds from the different tracks combined sweet and melodious with cinical and playful... but always honest (Tori's fans would expect no less).
The ever-likeable "God" wastes no words in confronting the feelings that even the most religious person sometimes has in times of trouble. "Home on the Range: the Cherokee Edition" is a classic... Tori style. She always finds a way to slip her heritage into her cds (as with "Frog on my Toe") while maintaining a view which most can identify with. The piano suites "All the Girls Hate Her" and "Over it" are delightful examples of Amos' classical background, with a playful twist. She creates quite the drama through story-telling notes. It's almost as if Tori is sitting right next to you, whispering the story into your ear. So listen carefully fans, because this single is worth it.
