Annihilator may just be the best kept secret in heavy metal.
"Alice in Hell" is the first installment in a long line of Annihilator albums. The title track had a video that was somewhat popular around 1990 on MTV's now defunct "Headbangers Ball".
While this album lacks some of the more refined qualities of Annihilator's other releases, it is (in my opinion) the hardest hitting of them all. Every track on this album rocks with the ferocity of a pit bull on crack tearing apart a hapless bunny. It's sheer sonic attack is enough to make the most devout metalhead smile with satisfaction.
Some of the highlights of this album are:
* Alice In Hell
* WTYD (Welcome to your death)
* Ligeia
* Human Insecticide
Jeff Waters, the lead guitarist, composer, and producer for Annihilator, really shows his speed and technical proficiency on this album. He is one of the best guitarists I have ever heard.
The only problem that I have with "Alice in Hell" is that the recording is pretty lousy. It needs a lot more bass, and sounds kind of "tinny". This can be fixed with more volume.
My final judgement is that if you are a true thrash fanatic, RUN, don't walk, to the record store and buy this CD. You will not be disappointed.
