This is the Bee Gees first internationally released album. It was released in 1967 way back when vinyl was the medium of choice. The CD was first released in 1986 on a German pressed RSO disc. Hits from this album include "New York Mining Disaster 1941" and "To Love Somebody". Barry Gibb was 19 at the time of release and twin brothers Maurice and Robin were 17. The simplicity of the music and lyrics reveal an naive and simple view of life. The sound is vaguely beatlesque. You have to keep in mind that this album was released during the Beatles "Sgt Pepper" and the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" album.
Each song is listenable and enjoyable - not too hard, not too soft. There are no guitar solos on this album, but there is a full orchestra backing them up. The sound quality is what is to be expected of an album produced in 1967 - there's a little tape hiss, but it is a leap above the vinyl pressing. This is highly recommended for people into the 60s sound. For Bee Gees fans, it's a must have.
