thestinker38's Full Review: Plastic Surgery Disasters/In God We Trust, Inc. by...
Plastic Surgery Disaster/In God We Trust is my second Dead Kennedys album I bought, and in my opinion falls short of Fresh Fruit. Also, In God We Trust can be offensive several ways. First, Jesus is crucified on dollar bills on the back cover. Second, songs like Religious Vomit may offend some people. I happen to be christian and was a little upset when I saw it. I also tend to skip over Religious Vomit. Usually I can stand it if a band I like does this thing like once(NIN), but DK does it a number of times. This album does have some highlights so lets check out a few of them.
Government Flu- East Bay Ray really shines in this song with one hell of a guitar riff. The lyrics are also amazing. 'We got a drug/Gonna test it out on you/Won't make you die/It'll get you just a little bit sick.'
Terminal Preppie- This song is an all out diss against college jocks. Jello is saying that jocks in college just want to get drunk, and that you should go to college to learn instead. 'I'm not here to learn/I just want to get drunk/And major in buisness/And get taught how to F***!' This song was probably written for me when I go to college. Great song.
Trust Your Mechanic- This song is saying when one thing is fixed another falls apart. I love this song because of its sarcastic tone. It is really about buying drugs you think you need to keep you better. So YOU are the car and the DOCTOR is the mechanic. 'Trust your mechanic to mend your car/Bring it into his garage/He tightens and loosens a few spare parts/One thing is fixed, another falls apart.'
Riot- Well, you guessed it from the title. The lyrics are about pure chaos involved in rioting. 'Now you can smash all the windows that you want/All you really need are some friends and a rock/Throwing a brick never felt so damn good/Smash more glass, scream with a laugh.'
I Am The Owl- Wow. How does Jello think of this stuff? For right now this is my favorite song on the album. This Plumber taps some guy's bedroom. Then whenever the guy does something against one of the plumber's friends the plumber disguises himself and starts a riot against the guy. I have an idea who "the plumber" and "the guy" are, but can someone fill me in just in case?
Moon Over Marin- East Bay Ray once again plays great surf style guitar in this song. I'm not really sure what this song is about but this beach is getting trashed where Jello is at. Then Jello says he always has the moon. Fill me in please!
Nazi Punks F*** Off!- This song is saying punk isn't a religion, but rather thinking for yourself. It also says swastikas aren't cool. Nazis are all b@stards little F***s. 'You aint hardcore if you spike your hair/When a jock still lives inside your head.'
We Have a Bigger Problem Now- Just like California Uber Alles except instead of knocking Jerry Brown its Ronald Regan. It still is funny as hell and sounds like an old bar tune(for lack of better word). 'Welcome to 1984/Ready for the THIRD WORLD WAR?/You to will meet the secret police/They'll draft you and jail your neice.'
Overall, this was a great CD/CDs even if I did have a little gripe with In God We Trust. Still not as good as Fresh Fruit in my opinion. Buy this second after Fresh Fruit. Thanks for reading my review. Peace.
