sumicat's Full Review: Infamous Angel by Iris DeMent
A few years ago, my husband and I were taking the kids to a family reunion. Driving through A very dark West Virginia listening to the radio, and looking forward to seeing family.
Then a young woman came on singing a song that fit like nothing else could have right then. That voice.. those lyrics.. she sounded like the singing I recalled from my childhood growing up in an old fashioned Baptist Church.
Her voice carried pure and sweet above the instruments. I was totally enchanted and started scrambling like a madwoman trying to find a pen, pencil, anything to write down the name of this artist. They always announced the artist at the end of the song. By the interior light of my car, with chapstick, I scribbled "Iris DeMent" on the passenger side window.
The song was "Our Town" from her "Infamous Angel" album. This one song was enough to hook me, and I now own several of her albums. This album is very much like her "My Life" album...another great listen.
If you liked the pure voices we heard in the folk songs of the 60's and 70's, you'll love this.
