Wonderful Lambchops (Reply to this comment)

You translated to perfection the exact impact THE DOORS had on popular culture from 1967 on! In very sincere, while not devoid of criticism, words.
I'm very glad to see one of my offerings side by side with such major counterparts! :)
Peace,

Very Enjoyable Review (Reply to this comment)
by PSobel
And I've always enjoyed the Doors music. I think Morrison was an incredible talent. Possessed by inner demons and haunted by his own obsessions, I find him to be the epitome of a classic, troubled, but brilliant artist. In the same vein as Hendrix, Joplin, and a few others from the same time frame. Gone too soon, but not without leaving an enormous footprint in the annals of rock history. Nicely done.

The musical landscape... (Reply to this comment)
by kordahl
There were many great bands at the time of the Doors first release. Indeed, they were noticed by critics and public alike. Don't forget Hendrix,
Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder
or even Vanilla Fudge. To say the Doors and wonderful in the same sentence seems ridiculous.
The Doors were dangerous and thats what the whole thing was about. Its dangerous to deal with ones truth. The Disney "Its a Small World After All"
was "wonderful". Vietnam was a big world after all. The Doors were part of the peoples resistance to the insanity. Epinions is going to mush. Please do more homework. "The End" was a song written about a relationship breakup for example. I'm really trying to hang in here
but it gets more difficult each time some of the so called "editors" downgrades others work and then write uninformed syrup. You are right though,
the Doors had a great debut album, and if you are an alky like Morrison, "Waiting For The Sun" will have a special meaning for you too. -

Jim Morrison was a god in some ways. I was a total Doors head for a number of years, though I was born in 67 and wasn't around for the stuff as it was happening. I discovered the Doors when I was 14 and worshipped Jim. Genius? yes. Idiot? maybe. I don't care... he was cool. Best album? Yeah, I'd have to agree with ya. The End makes me cry and scream and writhe in pain. Very cool. Great review.

That is the coolest thing ever. I know it sounds strange, but I would've killed to have been witness to Morrison's antics. Too bad I wasn't even an egg yet ;)
Thanks for the comment!

I was even in the audience all those many years ago when he exposed himself at a concert in Miami!
Talk about a funny Jim Morrison experience!
Great review, I enjoyed reading it, thanks

The book of poetry I have is the second volume entitled "The American Night." There are others from Morrison like "Wilderness." There are lots of books published with his poetry. It's but one.

Yet Another Comment (Reply to this comment)

I like Riders On the Storm and The End and the one where he says "C'mon and touch me" on the first line. I'm a very casual fan of theirs, I think the organ and the very light drumming get on my nerves after awhile, but this was a good review nonetheless. Isn't that book of poetry called "An American Prayer"?

I can see that. Like everything else, the music could be an acquired taste. I try me best (!) to seperate Morrison's offstage problems from the music. Of course, that doesn't always work...
Thanks!

Jim Morrison... (Reply to this comment)
by thevoid99
I like the Doors and everything but I think they're kind of overrated and some of Morrison's poetry was crap in my opinion. Many says he's a genius and all that but really, I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Lester Bangs said it best about Morrison "Jim Morrison, he was drunken buffoon". He was right actually, Morrison was part genius and part idiot.

I love him as a poet...sure, his writing is obviously influenced by his love of LSD, but it's still great. I actually got "The American Night" (a book of his poetry) a few Christmas's ago. Love it!

This is an absolutely groovy, even bitc*en review of The Doors (the censors don't like that old adjective!) Thanks for the memories. Love them.
