Pros: The 3D is astounding!
Cons: Lose the cyber-chick
The Bottom Line: Sadly, some pieces of wonderful animation were swamped by an unengaging plot and a ditzy heroine.

| sweet-indigo's Full Review: Cyberworld |
I was excited, and I was engrossed - managing to ignore that silly cyber-chick Phig (a woman of Barbie proportions and intellect to match!) and seen the first promising displays of wonder, I found myself soaring over a glorious city, seeing vast waterfalls, and plunging into the ocean. And the feeling of immersion was overwhelming. Swimming with the sea creatures - it was a piece of infinite beauty, and who cares about the awkwardly fitting 3D glasses? It was great, and the music was wonderful to go with it.
IMAX's production of Cyberworld started out thus. It's a tour of the 'Galleria' - a computerised gallery of 3D productions, by your tour guide Phig; note that the Galleria was only a version 3.1, hardy-har-har, not to mention an amusing call to tech-support. But after that, the whole experience is rather dampened down by the discovery of rather crude cartoon bugs eating away at the system, and Phig goes out to get rid of them. This little adventure of your tour guide battling against the bugs and the seemingly inevitable destruction of the Galleria is interspliced by a Pet Shop Boys' song and scenes from Antz and The Simpsons, as well as the adventures of some household insects and a rather bizarre scene from - what is it, an airship? In which you get to see a woman's underwear from the bottom. I'm not kidding you.
The trouble was, the good stuff was already over - apart from Phig's desperately unfunny battles with the bugs, there was some interesting animation, but to be honest it was a disappointment after the beginning scenes. A lot of it was just plain boring. The plot did not work at all to fix it together, it served as more of a distraction. And the end - what an anti-climax. You'd think you could get at least a decent bit in at the end, but no, simply more boredom. I'm sorry to sound cynical. I loved the first bit. I want to see more of it! But the rest did very little for me.
That's why I'm giving this 2 stars and a recommend - yes, go see it; you'll be dazzled. But only do so if you can cut through the slop of the annoying Phig who was as stereotyped as a cyber-chick can be, and if you don't mind getting the good bits in first.
