| Dosite1's Full Review: Fantasia/2000 |
We recently saw Fantasia 2000 recently while on a trip. We were unable to see it at our local IMAX because of Disney's demands for commitment from the theatres so we had to wait until we were in a town that offered it. It was worth the wait.
I had read the opinions of other members that were, I think, unfairly harsh on Disney and the movie, so I was pleasently surprised to find myself totally enthralled by this movie. Each short film was special in its' own way, in the same way that each piece of music was different in tone, texture, and color. When the narrator announced the film as an abstract work, I was not surprised that what followed was exactly that, an abstraction. I was totally engrossed and found the segues to be every bit as enjoyable as the shorts that they introduced.
I would not bring a young child as the IMAX format might be too overwhelming for her, but I look forward to having a VHS format available so that my young son, who needs exposure to serious music for his own development, can enjoy it too. Here's hoping that Disney will continue to update this classic every sixty years or so.
