I am of the original Fantasia Cult circle since the re-release of Fantasia in the 1970's I could not get to the movie theater fast enough to see Fantasia 2000. I was not disappointed.
Like the original Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 is not really meant for children unless a child is very young say 2 years, who are enthralled by everything, or has been raised on such movies as Fantasia with parental discussion.
I was so glad that Disney did not try too hard to make this a movie for children. I was afraid they would after the fact that the original Fantasia was so badly received in the 1950's. They stuck with the same wonderful idea of classical music interpreted with animation. And what animation.
The selection of musical pieces is wonderful and takes in some composers not familiar to many such as George Gershwin, and takes in and does excellent wonderfully ingenious interpretations of familiar pieces such as "Pomp and Circumstance".
All should make the effort to see this movie on the BIG screen to have the full effect of the animation and feelings evoked from the pieces.
It will be released on Video I'm sure, but to see on a regular television screen much can be lost.
My only disappointment was that it is quite short. At 85 minutes it ends all too quickly. Disney could have done a couple of more pieces easily.
A must see Movie for cult movie and classical music lovers.
