This is another case of technique over content. I loved the original Fantasia(it's one of my top five favorite films) but this remake just doesn't cut it. Yes, the visuals are stunning. Yes, the music is well-
orchestrated. But the fatal flaw is that what is presented is not original enough. The idea of Donald Duck conducting animals onto the arc as Pomp and Circumstance swells in the background smacks of stodginess.
The original presented stories along with the visuals, stories that were unique and challenging. This one degenerates into somewhere between inspirational and uninspiring. I liked the radio commentator that hosted
the original. But one host is enough. After that, it begins to turn into a glitter-fest, instead of the high art concept maintained in the original. The movie also falls prey to The Star Wars syndrome, eye-
popping special-effects, with a flat concept. I shouldn't say the concept. The concept is sound, but the execution of the concept leaves much to be desired. This movie turns into a vehicle for aging celebrities to promote their individual "appreciation of the arts." Show us your
appreciation by taking your armani and your chardani, and leaving us in peace. Thank you.
