Pros: Great set design, James Mason as Captain Nemo...
Cons: ... characters not true to the book, Nemo not mysterious enough...

Agreement is SO satisfying, isn't it?
Especially when we are right!
Take care.

1) A movie and a book - even with the same title- are two different things and cannot really be compared, and that
2) What we experienced as children will ALWAYS look differently to us as adults.
N'est pas?
Nice review!

I know what you mean! There were so many movies that seemed awesome to me when I was a kid, but now they just seem mediocre. I'll have to let you know what the kids & I think of it - it's at the top of my Q, ready to ship out on Monday. :)

Have a good one,

MZ

Thanks Milena!

I'll look out for your review - there are some movies that I loved as a kid which I love just as much now (perhaps for different reasons though!), but this one just didn't do it for me as an adult. I might watch it again when I'm in a better mood for it though - I often enjoy something more once my expectations have been lowered a bit!! :-D

I'll look out for your review... Hope your kids enjoy it every bit as much as we did as youngsters!

But that's a given. :)

Admittedly, I have not read the book, but I do remember loving this movie when I was a kid. I'm going to have to rent it and hope that my kids will love it, too! Thanks for sharing your honest opinion on the movie! :)

Take care,

MZ

Yeah... I was terrified of teh Tripods (BBC sci-fi series in case you overseas haven't heard of it) - but I suspect I'd find it laughable now! I kind of want to see it for that very reason... :-)

Thanks for the comment!

an adult. I remember thinking "ooohhhh....scary!!!!" when I saw this as a kid. Wonder how it would be now (I haven't read the book). Another childhood favorite that I saw as a kid was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I watched it with the kids I now work with and it seemed...slow...a bit too slow for their 21st Century attention spans (and maybe even mine).
