Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
Debbie and Danny, the couple this movie goes to bed with right away and sordidly throughout the movie. It is good for teaching what not to do with relationships and picks up the need for romanticism, truth and raw uninhibited sexual passion within both the female and male of this interesting affair. Each has faults and not dealt with till much later when by then the audience, feels all is lost. But affection and complexity are an enticing pair and this seals it for the two hour long description of hasty copulations. Its not just about the sex, last night . . .
Nothing like the play because of the detail this movie delivers in a long drawn-out continuation of an initial mistake: sleeping together on the first date. Well in this case it is not even a date, just a random 'picking up' in the local bar. The couple find instant sexual attraction which later blossoms into something neither can really handle at this junction of their lives.
What saves it is the real quality of emotional fortitude friends provide when things seem all wrong, or not going the way things should, or just a good "I told you so". The frenzy of having to be 'doing it' is decreased when the "L" word is involved and boundaries shift into coupledom. There is sharing of tears, laughter, bitter words and even an awakening of sorts that brings readiness in a relationship to light. Debbie, played by Demi Moore and Danny played by Rob Lowe, realized they had been in the dark too long and it was time to open the blinds.
A funny but unforgetable story appealing to the voracious appetite of 'a player' out there getting his piece of action on in a quick victory which has consequences. Some handle it this way, others do not. It is an honor to the ego and how affection gets the best of us making us later regret decisions made in haste. If you want an eye-opener on how to treat one another after the fact, this element of surprise in making a one night stand go almost two years, is qualifying for a reasonable fascimile of tolerance and dedication. See it with someone you love and reflect on the short but sweet intimate moments these two shared equally impressive outside the bedroom, it is worth that much for the record !
The quality on VHS is probably just as clear as a DVD cause it is the player not the tape that usually needs cleaning, so with this version you are good to go on any home entertainment system complete with the VHS Recorder and Playback unit.
Best line while sobbing her eyes out, was "I'm not unhappy" . . ., followed by that kiss.
