What a lovely series! I had only heard of Anne of Green Gables, and never cared much about watching it. Until I started watching it, that is. Wow! The casting director alone deserves a gold medal. I can’t imagine anyone else in the world playing the part of Anne Shirley. I fell in love with the young lady part and parcel in the first ten minutes of the first installment. Who could resist her? She is full of charming enthusiasm and honesty and trepidation. She is a brave soul. She is a loving soul. She is a loyal soul. She makes a bad first impression many times, but can not manage to keep a foe. I would be curious to know how many of us identify closely with Anne Shirley.

The rest of the characters are cast just as well, from the first good friend, right down to the last busybody. The setting is amazing. It is a visual delight. Anyone would want to move right in with the brother-sister duo who adopted Anne. They help her find her way down the path towards a lovely life. It is fun to watch Anne grow into a young woman who can hold her own with the best of them, without losing an ounce of her charm.
