Start with a little New Orleans cajun flavor. Add Dennis Quaid. Mix in some great zydeco music. Fold in a good drama, with some action. Finally, blend in some spicy hot romance, and you've got "The Big Easy". This is one movie I've gone back for second helpings of over the years.
I originally saw this movie because I was a fan of Dennis Quaid's, as well as a fan of the New Orleans' atmosphere. I was not disappointed by either. Quaid plays Remy McSwain, a cop who must come to terms with his own integrity, as well as the integrity of his family and his profession. Ellen Barkin plays Assistant DA Anne Osborne, who must learn the ability to look at the big picture, not just the facts that present themselves. In New Orleans, things are not always the way they seem.
The movie is well shot, on location in New Orleans. Quaid and Barkin create a great physical attraction to each other. This is a sexy, romantic thriller set in a great city. The story is steamy, and original. The guy who wrote it also wrote the original Beverly Hills Cop movie.
Did I mention the music is great? I bought the soundtrack and listen to it in the car often. This is a good renter!
