"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.,,, Hit it."
I've been a Blues Brothers fan since way back when they first appeard on Saturday Night Live and I can tell you that I've seen this movie well over 130 times since it's release. Why? Because the Blues Brothers kick @$$!
What this movie is about is two brothers Joliet Jake (John Belushi) and Elwood Blues(Dan Akroid)who both grew up in "St Helen of the Blessed Shroud Orphanage" When Jake gets out of prison, Elwood makes Jake visit "The Penguin" She's the nun that runs the place. They learn that there was a tax assessment of $5,000 put on the place and the church doesnt want to pay for it,, Well,, Jake and Elwood decide they want to save the place. After their old friend "Curtis" (Cab Calloway) sends the two to the "Triple Rock Baptist Church" to listen to "Rev Cleophus" (James Brown) While there they "See the light" and then are off to save the orphanage as a "mission from God"
How do they plan on getting this money together? The band! Unfortunatly while Jake is in prison,, Elwood lost contact with the members. They have to locate and convince these guys to give up their good jobs to play again with Jake and Elwood.
After a traffic stop, Elwood takes off from police and then the two brothers become the areas "most wanted". Not only by the police but by the Illinois Nazi party.
The movie has a slow start but then slowly builds into a high energy fast paced flick with a lot of star appearances and a lot of high speed chases. The crash scenes alone make this film totally cool.
Some of the stars in this film are Frank Oz, Carrie Fisher, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and a bunch of others. The special effects were good for the time it was made.
If you haven't seen this movie yet,, go rent it! It's totally cool.
