Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
The Class of Nuke em High is a movie I own due to the fact that I needed a third movie in one of those 3 for £10 deals, and knowing that Troma movies are at least unique I purchased this.
The movie takes place in Tromaville, New Jersey. The local highschool is located next to the nuclear power plant, and naturally this affects the students.
The honours society become the punk biker gang The Cretins, led by Spike (Robert Prichard The Toxic Avenger), who sell nuclear weed called Atomic High to the students.
The main protagonists are Warren (Gilbert Brenton TVs Lexx) and Chrissy (Janelle Brady Teen wolf Too), boyfriend and girlfriend and the closest thing the school has to normal students. When they are forced into smoking an Atomic High the effects are catastrophic.
Warren becomes a strange, Toxic Avenger esque creature that kills two of the cretins for making his girlfriend sick, while Chrissy gives birth to a strange creature that retreats down the toilet bowl.
When Warren steps in to save a nerd from Spike, the fight that breaks out leads to the cretins being expelled.
The gang plot their revenge, and setting off a nuclear alarm, they take over the school and take Chrissy prisoner. Can Warren put an end to the cretins reign of terror? What happened to the thing Chrissy gave birth to? All is explained in the climax of this insane movie.
The Class of Nuke em High DVD I watched may have been censored, I dont know for sure, but the one thing that struck me about this movie was that it just didnt have the same kick in the sack quality of The Toxic Avenger sure it wasnt exactly a good tasteful masterpiece, but it wasnt the bad taste masterpiece you expect from Troma.
The acting is all pretty terrible, but like most Troma movies, you get the feeling this may have been intentional.
The guys are all as enigmatic as card, and the women arent much better, but have other qualities that show why they are there, but this is just part and parcel of the Troma experience
The music is cheesy stupidity, with a theme tune that shares a name with the movie, and a chorus of whats goin on
at Nukem high!
The movie is not well written; characters are never really given depth at all.
The special effects are actually not all that terrible, at least on the monster anyway.
To be honest, just like any Troma movie, there really isnt any point in being too critical of the movies quality, seeing as it wasnt made with anything but shock in mind. But to be honest, I dont think it really delivers on that count either. Sure it is hardly child friendly, but it just generally isnt as good as The Toxic Avenger.
The movie isnt exactly unwatchable. The gorgeous girls and general question of what will happen next had me watching until the end, and Im sure Troma fans will lap it up.
At the end of the day, the only people I can recommend this movie to are those who are already Troma fans. If you are just looking to get into Tromas movies, I would advise trying The Toxic Avenger first to get a feel for the taste of the company, and just generally because it is one of their better movies.
While this movie has the gore and bad taste that is the company trademark, I just dont feel it is used as much, or as intelligently as in their other pictures.
