Pros: Wonderful movie!

Cons: There is action and suspense, but I wouldn't call it an action-flick.

The Bottom Line: I had not seen this movie previously, but purchased it anyway, and I'm glad I did!

Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.

I just saw Close Encounters for the first time in my life (I'm 30 years old). I've been wanting to see it for a couple years, but have refused to rent an aged VHS copy from the rental stores, nor do I want to purchase anymore VHS tapes. So I was thrilled when the DVD version was recently released!

All I can say is that this is a great movie that explores the possibility of a friendly alien culture(s) that wishes to make contact. It is not a "shoot-em-up" watch-out-or-the-alien-will-get-you kind of movie.

Richard Dreyfuss is great and I would recommend this for anyone that enjoys science fiction movies.

I don't have kids myself, but I think any kid over 9 would enjoy the movie. A child is "abducted" in the movie, so that may scare some younger children.
