Charles Bronson plays a man whose wife is murdered and daughter raped early on in the movie by a pair of psychopathic punks seemingly straight out of the movie THE INCIDENT, who follow them home from the grocery store and gain entry into the apartment by claiming to be grocery delivery boys. The daughter suffers such severe psychological scars that soon after the rape/murder, one sees the daughter in a mental hospital trying to recover from shell shock, and the prognosis is not good for her return to society any time soon.
Because Bronson's character is dissatisfied with the slow progress of the justice system in America - especially with regard to the prosecution of his daughter's rapists and his wife's murderers - he becomes a vigilante, going around New York City killing off all those he catches in flagrante delicto committing any number of heinous crimes.
Although this is a good, tight action thriller, well-paced and with a superb performance by Bronson in the lead role, this is not a movie for the faint of heart. The murder and rape are portrayed on the screen in graphic detail, and the psychopathy of the bad guys is unmitigated by any semblance of redeeming virtue in their personalities. Because these sequences, and the ones involving the lead character's idea of vigilante justice, are so vivid, children under the age of 16-18 and adults bothered by such graphic violence should not go to this movie.
