For a very long time I cited this as my favorite movie ever (replaced finally by Blue Velvet), but when I tried to watch it recently I just couldn't sit still.
There's an enormous amount of human psychological detail to cherish, especially in the wedding scene... but somehow my tastes have changed (matured?) so that it now seems clumsy, and fails to connect.
So I don't know whether to recommend it or not! If you're like I was in the 1980s, you should love it. If you're like I am now, you may walk out.
At the time it was released, the Russian roulette scenes were considered unbearably shocking (and racist), but Hollywood has never let up on that accelerator, so this is no longer true.
