My wife and I first watched the movie Fandango while living in Lake Charles, LA in the mid 80s. Being from Texas, we were taken back to our homeland by the characters' road trip to the Big Bend country. Even today, almost 20 years after the making of the film, we still play music from the movie (Pat Metheny's "It's for You") while driving between El Paso and Midland.
The movie itself is enjoyable, easy to watch, with entertaining characters - Costner, Nelson, and Amis highlight the film. Last year we were in Marfa while on our way back to the Big Bend and we drove right past the cemetery where the fireworks scene was filmed. The scene was eery and so was the actual cemetery.
The end of the movie is romantic, so it's a good date movie, if your partner has half a brain, a sense of humor, and also a sense of the fairly recent history. It's a film that recalls the best from our past, reminds us of eventual obligations, and shows us all the importance of friendship and love.... This film comes highly recommended.
