This movie is a cult classic, and is not for everyone. I had heard different opinions and decided to view it recently. The movie takes place in a circus performers enviornment, showing different types of performers, but it begins with the showing of different side shows.

On one side, they show people with deformaties (freaks) and then they focus on a blond bird like female, and this is where it all begins.

The movie's shock value, has to do with people with deformaties and the trouble they have. We have this beautiful full sized woman, who is greedy and is promiscious, she utilizes her assets to tantalize the owner, a pint sized man.

All the other individuals in this show are very united and notice what she is trying to do. In the meantime, we have another individual, his once girlfriend, broken hearted, because she knows what this woman is up to, and they are alike in many ways besides stature.

No, I would not say that this movie is horrific to todays standards. But, for the time it was made and people did not deal well with physical and mental handicaps, it was. I guess that this is the horror aspect of the movie.

It also showed the unity that everyone had and loyalty towards one another. The finale showed the very essence of that unity and the horrible end to the evil femme fatale's normal existence.
