Pros:Returning cast in a funny, entertaining movie.
Cons:Silly and unbelievable at times.
The Bottom Line: Ghostbusters 2 was a fun, entertaining movie that fans of Ghostbusters will probably enjoy.
After Ghostbusters became very popular, it wasn't any surprise that a sequel was released a few years later. I have seen Ghostbusters 2 several times over the years and I enjoy it every time I watch it.
Certain things that I mention about Ghostbusters 2 could be spoilers for Ghostbusters if that movie hasn’t already been watched. Some things will make more sense if the movies are watched in order.
Despite having saved the city, Ghostbusters had gone out of business, mainly because of a series of lawsuits filed against them. Ray and Winston were entertaining at children’s birthday parties. Ray also owned a bookstore. Egon was heading up a research team and Peter was hosting a low budget tv show about psychics. His relationship with Dana had fallen apart. She had married someone else and had a baby named Oscar. She was back in the area after a divorce, working at a museum doing art restoration.
Dana had a strange experience with the baby stroller and went to Egon for help. Ray was also helping and let slip what was going on to Peter. While checking the area where the stroller incident took place, they discovered a river of slime under the city. Testing showed that emotions influenced the slime. At the same time, a new painting of a man named Vego arrived at the museum where Dana was working. She thought the painting was creepy and something about it bothered her. Soon after the painting arrived, slime filled her bathtub and tried to attack her and Oscar.
Ghostbusters 2 dealt with ghosts and the supernatural like the first movie had. The guys continued to deal with ghosts in the same way they had in the first movie. They had to deal with the river of slime in addition to ghosts. There seemed to be some kind of connection between the slime and the painting at the museum. Most of what they had to deal with was connected to the slime or painting in some way.
It seemed like a few years had passed since the events in the first movie. It wasn’t said for sure how much time had passed. It had been long enough for Dana to get married, have a baby, and get divorced. Oscar was still a baby, but he didn’t seem to be very old. Ghostbusters had gone out of business because of a bunch of lawsuits. I did like that the movie picked up with main characters several years later and showed how things had changed for them.
Like the first movie, Ghostbusters 2 was a family friendly ghost movie. I did think the guy in the painting was creepy even though I never thought the movie was scary. A few things that happened could be scary to younger children. Instead of going for horror and scares, the movie was after laughs. That worked very well and made the movie entertaining. Several funny things happened when Peter was trying to deal with Oscar. Louis was also back and he added a lot of humor to his scenes as well.
All of the main characters returned from Ghostbusters for Ghostbusters 2. Winston was in movie of this movie buy still remained more in the background than the other guys. They were all basically the same. Peter did seem to change a bit after Dana was back in his life. Louis and Janine were back in a few scenes. They didn’t do too much other than add some humor to their scenes. The same cast returned and all of them were good in their parts.
The mayor was around in a few scenes trying to deal with everything that was going on in the city. He had a new assistant that hated the Ghostbusters and caused a lot of trouble. The new character of Yanis ended up being important once things started happening with the painting. He worked at the museum and seemed to be Dana’s boss. He was an odd man that wanted a relationship with Dana.

DVD Information
The DVD I have of this movie is the widescreen version. The only extras on the disc were two episodes of the cartoon. The first episode briefly referenced what had happened in the first movie and the second episode mentioned something from the second movie. I do remember watching the cartoon.
Ghostbusters 2 was a fun, entertaining movie that is worth watching. People that liked the first movie should also like this one.
