This movie is the greatest example of a James Bond movie. It has everything: a great villain, the best villainous scheme, an abnormal villain sidekick, beautiful women, a great intro action sequence, the Bond car, and of course, James Bond and his style. Because of this, Goldfinger continues to be viewed and is one of the most popular movies in the series.
The Villain and his Plot
Auric Goldfinger is a powerful businessman with a special interest in gold. Also, he hates losing as you find out when he is introduced to you in a complex setup to cheat in a card game. Even more thought out is "Operation Grand Slam" which is a top rate scheme second to no other Bond movie. This involves breaking into Fort Knox by using some nerve gas dropped by a beautiful flying circus. Instead of taking the gold from Fort Knox, Goldfinger plans to detonate an "Atomic Device" causing chaos for the United States and making the value of gold shoot up about "thirteen times."
True Bond
The Bond trademarks certainly apply to Goldfinger. For example, the weird villain sidekick Oddjob. Oddjob was good for Goldfinger as he did many odd jobs for him such as caddying, valet driving, killing girls, and all sorts of other things. The particularly unusual part about Oddjob is that he is a short, mute, Korean who has exceptional strength. Furthermore, a suggestively named beauty named P*ssy Galore becomes a focal point of Bond’s charm later on in the movie and is one of three girls 007 gets tangled up with somehow are another. Another quality of the Bond series found in this movie is the relationship with Bond and the Villain; how they can threaten each other’s lives one second and the next be sitting around like old friends discussing the scheme.
More so than this, the gadgets used by 007 are off-the-wall but, as always, used. Like the ejector seat in the car or the unheard of (for that time) personal tracking devices, Bond is always well equipped. However, nothing James Bond has is worth more than his style and charm. Goldfinger is everything you think of when you hear James Bond. All the other movies to follow, will follow a pattern set in this third movie of the series.
