Wow...I can't even remember when I saw this movie for the first time, but I know I was pretty young. Even as a kid, I thought John Travolta was pretty cute! For someone who really loves musicals, singing, and dancing anyway - this is absolutely my favorite of them all.
I finally purchased a copy of the movie about a year ago, because I hadn't seen it in years, and couldn't see renting it a thousand times. It still makes me want to get up and dance just like it did years ago.
Now, one thing I will say about it - I am not a prude, but I do have kids. And after it having been so many years since I had seen the movie, I finally "listened" to the words of the songs and paid more attention to the plot. Although I was a kid when I saw it and I don't think it did any damage, I am not sure the material is appropriate for kids. This is a snuggle-under-a-blanket-with-a-hot-cup-of-cocoa-after-the-kids-are-in-bed kinda movie. (Unless you want to dance, then forget the blanket)
It's fun, it's sad, it's exciting, and with John Travolta at his very best, it's SEXY! And Olivia, who I have always admired as a singer, gives a top-notch performance and proves there is more to her than her voice. Stockard Channing - well, you just gotta love her sassy attitude.
Oh, and the reason I selected "good for a rainy day" for video occasion is not because that is the ONLY time it is good for. But rainy days tend to be drab and depressing, and what better movie to pep things up??
If you haven't already seen this movie, where have you been?? Seriously, though - its a classic, and it is one I know my kids will enjoy (when they grow up!)
This film adaptation of GREASE is the zippy smash hit translation from the Broadway musical tribute to the fabulous 1950s. As a new school year begins...More at Family Video
